One of my favourite photos! Side by side comparison of white #shark vertebrae from a 1.6m and 5.2m individual. 🦈🦑
Two white shark vertebrae sitting on someone’s hands. The one on the left is very small from a 1.6m individual and the one on the right is much larger from a 5.2m individual.

🦈🚨 New Paper! 🚨🦈

I am really excited to share the first chapter of my masters thesis which was just published! In this study we used an archived collection of white #shark vertebrae to investigate the population structure and ecological role of white sharks in AUS using stable isotope analysis. 🌊🦑🧪

Think carefully before buying a Greenland shark for the holidays. They are, after all, the world’s longest-living vertebrate.

Something really cool has been the population structure of these individuals, I’m hoping to be sharing the results in a paper soon!

Yes! We take a section from the centre which we then drill into repeatedly (like the rings on a tree trunk) to get samples which give us insight into what they’ve been up to their whole life (e.g. movement/feeding) 🦈

Ok, this one I *do* want your help with.

Making a starter pack of shark and ray scientists and conservationists.

There are a lot of folks I missed, help me fill this out.
