I find the "people without children pay for schools they don't use" framing pretty terrible, actually: there's a very real sense in which everybody in a community uses public schools regardless of whether or not they have children, since everybody in a democracy benefits from an informed citizenry.

There are lots of great sound effects in comics. KRACK-A-doooom. Snikt. Bamf. Pound for pound though, for me, there is no more satisfying a sound effect than Thwip. Love that Chris Burke incorporated it into this take on #SpiderMan and his stealth suit.

"That's the point – the smudge, the rough line, the hesitation - that's what makes my work come alive." - Jim Lee talking about why DC will never use AI storytelling. "AI doesn't dream, feel or make art, it aggregates it."

AI is like a Trolley Problem for media CEOs, except they don't realize the options are actually "stop the trolley" or "the trolley runs me over six months after I let it run over my employees."

I usually bring notes when I testify before Congress but they’re data and citations to back up my comments, but #pambondi brought a bunch of pre-packaged insults. Read This: "Bondi Accidentally Reveals Her Burn Book for Fiery Epstein Hearing" www.thedailybeast.com//pam-bondi-a...

This is nonsense.

Beyond it being a paid, source sourceless ~HOLLYWOOD INSIDER~ newsletter it is nothing but navel gazing AI boosting from the word go. I mean just read this.

"Opened with a flourish worthy of a Casablanca finale"

That's nothing. You just named a famous movie. Go home.
When OpenAI unveiled GPT-5 on Aug.7, CEO Sam Altman opened with aflourish worthy ofa Casablanca finale: "our smartest, fastest, nost useful model yet." The implication was clear- management consultants, lawyers and other white- collar professionals were about to get supercharged.

twice a year the entire U.S. press becomes a marketing extension of a single billionaire-owned retailer, and nobody in any position of editorial power thinks it's weird or gross

If an industry can't pay for the materials it needs to exist, then it isn't much of an industry, is it? Certainly not one we should pin the entire future of the American economy on.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

For what it’s worth:

Speaking as a showrunner with two writers rooms going on now, this article from Ankler is insane. I don’t know who the insider is, but the reporter should call bullshit. This is a GPT press release.

The “GPT-5 pass” has gone from curiosity to mandate. Scripts, trailers, pitch decks are all being filtered through an AI model that remembers every draft and forgets what originality looks like. @erikbarmack.bsky.social on Hollywood’s uneasy reset:

Felicity's short haircut back in the day was great and I'm sorry for the people too wrong to realize that.

My profile of the delightful Keri Russell, the darkly funny, surprisingly introverted former New Mickey Mouse Club member who—even after Felicity, The Americans and The Diplomat!—has never fully embraced the idea of herself as an actress: www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

Ok, so there's that. But also! I just replaced the battery on my fancy watch all by myself. And it works!

Of all the wild stuff he's said, this feels the most bizarre to me. At least all that other stuff boiled down to "everyone who likes me is good (but not as good as me) and everyone who doesn't like me is bad."

It's like arguing that bans against sleeping with clients infringe on your free speech because you just know your dick has curative powers and you should have the right to not just claim that but give it a whirl.

We have so aggressively lost the script on what is and isn't speech. Also, as a therapist I know ethically we aren't supposed to use treatments that are proven harmful and/or ineffective. This isn't a free speech issue, it is a professional ethics one.
