Fascism, by definition, depends on a permanent state of unrest, always finding something to revolt against. It's an interesting facet of our era that that something is frequently the lowest common denominator of grievance politics, like the Cracker Barrel logo.

A good example of why direct inflation adjustment of this sort is more deceptive than clarifying when applied over very long stretches of time where consumption patterns are very different.

Basic foods (bread/grain) probably devours a third of Cratchet's income, but not the modern worker's.

That final "content" sentence puts a finger on something that has been bothering me about Taylor Swift's appeal. Her songs have always been at least a little like "content," the musical equivalents of an autobiographical Tiktok video. She has always been an influencer first.

The best response to accidentally NSFW posting is when Josh Marshall of TPM many years ago accidentally posted a (very tasteful) lesbian porn video on Twitter. He deleted it, didn't say anything, and a few days later said, Why would I apologize? I did nothing wrong.

I've always respected that.

I somehow missed that BlueSky Aaron a few days ago tried to claim he was **investigating** a spam bot network when he liked a porn skeet.
