Trainee Spotlight!
Dr. Joe Armstrong is a postdoc in Maitreya Dunham’s lab in the dept of Genome Sciences. His research focuses on using baker’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and modified continuous culture systems known as aging chemostats to evolve yeast cells to extend replicative lifespan.

Trainee Spotlight! Each week you will meet 1 of the 12 amazing trainees from our BMHA T32 program.

First, Emily Teets!
Emily is a PhD candidate in the lab of Dr. Aakanksha Singhvi. They study the effect of disease-relevant genes on glia-neuron interactions and use C. elegans as a model organism.

We also had 4 tetrad dissection microscopes join the lab this week, as part of the @uw-nsc.bsky.social renewal! These belonged to Matt Kaeberlein as part of their large scale efforts to measure replicative lifespan in yeast. We are now offering them as loaners for labs who want to try lifespans.

🗣️ In this #CrossTalk, David J. Marcinek & Luigi Ferrucci argue that all studies of #mitochondrial function and energetics should consider the independent effects of #ageing and physical activity in their design and analyses. 🗣️
