The way Apple has been rolling out the AI features signals to me the company is on a downward spiral. None of their AI features feel user-first. It’s mostly a race to placate the stock market that they aren’t falling behind on AI.
Getting a message that my MacBook doesn't have enough memory available to download Apple Intelligence, but I don't WANT Apple Intelligence.

Kiddo went to a birthday party of his pre-school mate. He was the only kid at the party other than the birthday boy. 💔

Scary! So has the mutation already happened ? Or is this animal to human only ?

Govts have been wanting to backdoor encryption for years now. The security community keeps arguing a backdoor for the US is a backdoor for China too. Now that they see how vulnerable the telecom network is, I hope they realize the importance of encryption.
A White House official says that the US believes China-linked Salt Typhoon hackers targeted and recorded the phone calls of "very senior" US political figures (Alexander Cornwell/Reuters)

An Israeli soldier who was stationed along the Netzarim Corridor wrote a piece for Haaretz. He details how they don't really know what they're doing there, and just destroy countless homes.

The only rule to remember is “Stranger Danger”. And that applies to online as much as IRL.
Imagine ur teaching some youngins abt the internet. Lil kids, 10 or younger.
What are five or fewer rules for netiquette?

Basic internet hygiene?

The same way we learn about road crossing safety and what bathing suit areas are. Or the golden rule.

That's easy to remember quickly unto adulthood.

It’s time to build a new media ecosystem.
Scoop: After the LA Times published a piece about Elon Musk that carried a headline owner Patrick Soon-Shiong didn't like, a new rule was implemented: Prior to publishing opinion stories, headlines must be emailed to Soon-Shiong, where he can then choose to weigh in. www.status.news/p/los-angele...
The Times They Are A-Changin’
Staffers at the Los Angeles Times described to Status a demoralized publication depleted of its spirit in which employees are "confused," "offended," and "frustrated."

"Platforms are not governments. But the similarities between Musk’s actions on Twitter/X and illiberal autocrats’ state policies are too obvious to ignore."
Elon Musk became the first tech baron to transition to politics because he was the first major platform owner who paid less attention to the difficulties of speech governance than to the opportunities this unique sort of power can bring to those who dare to wield it freely, writes João C. Magalhães.
Musk Reinvented Platform Power. We Should Take Heed | TechPolicy.Press
João C. Magalhães says the creation of X and Musk’s radicalization exposed an unprecedented–but potentially replicable–politicization of platform power.

The best benefit is meeting fellow ambitious women and connecting with them. They can become a sounding board for you and your network over time.
Some academic institutions like mine offer "leadership courses" for women.

Is there evidence that senior women need to take such courses? Do men take them? Are graduates of these courses more likely to be appointed as deans and chairs? If not, beware of wasting your time.

As an immigrant parent in the US, I had to “learn” parenting from scratch. The parenting I grew up with was mildly toxic and I wanted to break the chain for sure. My kids are 4 and 7 and a few lessons we implemented seem to be working out. Sharing those here..

Talking to my cousins who are in grad school in the US now, worried how they’d navigate the job situation given Trump’s threats. He may rescind OPT which is essential for new grads to tide over the H1B filing date. And then H1B rejection rate also might go up significantly under his admin

Doesn’t this stance conflict with net neutrality/ Section 230. If X “owns” all the accounts, then X is liable for all the content from all accounts.
X files an objection to including X accounts belonging or related to Infowars in the outlet's bankruptcy auction, arguing it has ownership of all X accounts (Jason Koebler/404 Media)

A few thoughts on how to make Bluesky grow
- dense niche networks need to move enmasse. The journalist network, the medical research community etc. if you are in here, bring all your colleagues and community.

- encourage dual posting of breaking news on X and Bluesky.

The thing I realized. When you’re young you think invention requires a high bar of intelligence. The thing you realize later is invention is about risk taking (and some baseline intelligence). What you need most is courage to fail.
My high school reunion is this weekend. I don't want to go. In my high school yearbook, I was voted "Most Likely To Invent Facebook". The very next year, some other guy invented Facebook instead. My life has gone on to be one of aimless mediocrity.

Running a company like WhatsApp or Facebook, we have to be so thoughtful about equity in the policies. Elon is running X like it’s his pet stooge, personally deciding accounts to turn off. Why are there no checks and balances there ?

Something interesting about the fact that Twitter is dispersing but neither Threads nor Bluesky have been able to recreate it. It’s almost like the value that was on Twitter has just vanished overnight.
