We have an enormous leadership vacuum in our politics and global community. And an even bigger compassion and empathy vacuum. Our systems have elevated sociopathy instead of wisdom and cruelty in place of care.

Opinion | Australia's silence on the genocide in Gaza only encourages Benjamin Netanyahu to be more open and aggressive in his slaughter of Palestinians, writes Bernard Keane.
Australia's silence on genocide gives Netanyahu a free pass to exterminate Palestinians
The refusal of Australia and other Western countries to talk about Netanyahu's genocide in Gaza is encouraging a more blatant Israeli program of exterminating Palestinians.

We always wondered why people did nothing about the genocide during WWII.

I for one - don't wonder anymore.

During WWII it wasn't on screens every single day.

Now it is - and we still do nothing.

In fact Govts who should step up instead supply the weapons used!! #auspol

“The Israeli army says it is reviewing an attack on the home of two doctors in Khan Younis which killed nine of their 10 children.”

Oh they are ‘reviewing’ it? Oh that’s nice.

That doesn’t bring back her innocent babies you complete monsters.

If starving and bombing children to death doesn’t warrant sanctions what will?

For 19 months children have born the brunt of the war in Gaza. It is a war on children.

There is no excuse for the brutality being inflicted on the innocent lives of Palestinian children & families.
It must end 💔

Powerful Stella prize speech from Michelle de Kretser:

“In Australia today it isn’t those applauding mass murder who have cause to be afraid, but those speaking out against it. Principally targeted are Palestinians, Arabs, Muslims, First Nations people, people of colour, queers.”

I’ve heard more than once that those of us with no ‘dog in this fight’ should stay silent, that there’s infinite complexity that we couldn’t possibly understand.

But there’s nothing complex about the destruction of international law. And we ALL bear the cost of that. You will not silence us.
And the lines all our nations have allowed Israel to wilfully stomp over will come back on all of us. There is no international law now. No one is safe. Nothing they do matters. You could see 40,000 babies burned in a room and it would barely make a ripple in the mainstream. I’m so, so broken

I find myself completely unable to function today. I’ve seen a child surrounded by the flames of what was her family home. Starving babies. Defeated, broken men. Women cradling their shrouded children. It’s too much. And yet I still have to hear ‘but Hamas..’ FUCK OFF. Israel is committing genocide

The @statelibraryqld.bsky.social is blaming the Queensland Government. The Queensland Government is blaming the State Library. Who will have courage to at least admit they are consciously suppressing an important Indigenous writer’s voice, and collective freedom of expression and speech here?

This is abhorrent. Violence is never ever the answer. My sympathies to the victims and their families.
Two staff members at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC, were killed Wednesday night near the Capital Jewish Museum. The suspect, 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez of Chicago, was detained by security after entering the museum and could be heard chanting “free, free Palestine” while in custody.

This is nuts. Neither of these parties will ever be in government again unless they find a way to build a new coalition. But the scales have finally fallen perhaps from many an eye. This puts Labor in their strongest position ever historically. Let’s see what Albo makes of it.
Wrote about this being a strong possibility and yup - the Nationals have had a massive dummy spit and broken up the Coalition. Marching both parties even closer to obscurity. Absolutely amazing.

This years comp was an excellent demo of why nations currently committing atrocity have no place being in Eurovision. Even the results become political. Shame on the organisers for not having more moral clarity.
Israel should not have been allowed to compete in Eurovision any more than Russia. Platforming matters. International pressure matters. The atrocities must stop.
