Schools have already cut back to the bone. The real inefficiencies come from a fractured system caused by academisation. #FundFairPay #SaveOurSchools

The NEU opposes the exploitation of support staff, including cover supervisors, in being made to do the work of a teacher. 73% told us they are forced to engage in specified work – beyond their contract – and 75% consider it to be effectively the work of a supply teacher. #NEU2025

A 2.8% rise but no extra funding.

That means schools are expected to absorb the cost, pushing budgets to a 15-year low.

Staff cuts. Resource cuts. Still no fix to the recruitment and retention crisis.

We can’t afford this.

9 children in an average class of 30 are growing up in poverty. That cannot be right in the world's sixth richest country. The government must invest in the next generation – it can make an immediate start by making #FreeSchoolMealsForAll a reality: freeschoolmealsforall.org.uk/take-action

These crippling levels of child poverty cannot continue. The government should make sure every child has the best start in life and invest in the next generation so that no child is left behind. 🔗 bit.ly/3E7dd7b

Yes, I think the marginalisation of stakeholder perspectives, which formally happens through the academies policy because schools have been made less answerable to their local communities, may be contributing to this. And sometimes to the sense of conflict which can develop.
No wonder parents go to the newspapers - all avoided if they had proper representation.

Suggesting that paying CEOs excessive salaries will attract the best teachers makes no sense.

While there is Ofsted, there is a pot of money that could be put to better use. For a start it go to the teachers and support staff who actually do the work.
The government says there is no money for a fair and fully funded pay rise, but there is no money left to cut.

Schools need investment, not more financial pressure.

🗳 Vote now in our preliminary ballot on pay and funding at NEU Activate - link in our bio.

Just 88% of primary teacher targets were met in 2024-25, the worst since 2010.

Schools are at breaking point, and a 2.8% unfunded pay offer is an insult. This will drive more teachers away, deepening the crisis.
