Imagine saying, “they have to obey the law“ when it comes to immigrants but not when it comes to the people holding the highest positions of power in the country yet still somehow expecting everyone to believe you take the law seriously.

15 years ago today I arrived on Downing Street in a cage.
I've seen off Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss and Sunak and I'm still going strong.
Only two Prime Ministers have ever done longer stints here: William Pitt the Younger and Sir Robert Walpole.
Bill and Bob - I'm coming for you...

A lovely blue sky and crisp snowy day on Kinder Scout yesterday. Got the train to Edale for a change. The train, Edale and Kinder were all very busy with folk enjoying the first nice day of the year.

This is a very good description of why learning has to involve the agency of learners and not just 'instructing' them. Learning doesn't just = memory.
But it's fundamentally wrong headed.

You don't teach pupils to make an omelette by giving them bits of chopped up cold dead omelette to reassemble.

They make an omelette from raw ingredients paying attention to how they come together.

Chopping up knowledge is not the same as building up knowledge

The belief that we can get inside children's minds so they memorise knowledge in the 'correct' order to understand concepts is weird if you think about it. We can demonstrate and explain how they work but we can't do the thinking for our learners. These are essentially discussions about control.

Yes! And we’re have to able to attract those highly skilled support staff who are so essential. Currently Aldi pays more. I have interviewed 3 times now for a SEND TA with no success.

I don't think there's any secret about the best ways to meet additional needs in the classroom. High ratios, lots of staff knowledge about best practice, good quality resources, adaptive environments, working in partnership with families. But all this takes time, energy and needs funding.

We have to understand the link between the SEND Review and the curriculum review. A developmentally appropriate Primary curriculum built from EYFS up is essential to help us meet needs - we can’t be all things to all people - but doing curriculum properly now will support inclusion.

Yes - far too many children are expected to do things they are developmentally not ready for, and we wonder why so many present with additional needs!

I don’t really get this because if I take my grandsons, aged 7 and 5yrs - I don’t see them. They move so fast that even if I tried to engage they would have disappeared! I went around with the little one when he needed help, but he doesn’t now. I take a book to read.
