In Hebden Bridge there’s a little yarn library. Take what you want, leave something you don’t need. Ace!

A favourite viewpoint for looking over Edinburgh; the view from Blackford Hill yesterday. The West Lomond hills can be seen across the Firth of Forth

Badenoch wants to eliminate ‘rip off degrees’ like English. The usual philistine crap that a degree is just about work. The mission to create the stupidest nation on earth. And counterproductive. Young people will work for years. They’ll retrain endlessly. A degree can help them learn how to learn

1. A thread about the very serious young woman who told me off for allowing my learning disabled eight year old daughter to dance in front of the big screens at a modern art installation.

I’ll be sure to let my wife know that her drama degree was a rip off and in no way led her to a successful career in West End theatre production or allowed her to then start her own drama & youth theatre production company, survive Covid, employ 3 people and teach hundreds of children…

So, the plan is to cut English, the arts, and sociology - the degrees that actually study culture - while on another part of your platform claiming to “defend” British culture.

It’s performance nationalism with a reading age of seven.
Badenoch: Curb students taking 'rip-off' degrees such as English
The performing arts, sociology and anthropology are among the subjects the Conservatives would like to cut

I always get a bit worried if it is a favourite book. I prefer to see a film first and then read the book.

Then you get a kind of domino effect where if one MAT uses these approaches their exclusion rates go up and other local schools which are under subscribed get more of the children with high level challenges. When the DfE wants to know why inclusion isn't happening I think this plays a big part.

It is sad because I see more and more engaged, curious children go to secondary school and start to hate school. I don't want to bash secondary schools. The staff and headteacher at our local secondary school are amazing- dedicated and thoughtful.

It's very odd for me because I'm currently in early years where we focus heavily on encouraging and supporting children to develop self-regulation skills and to become independent learners. Something is going wrong (curriculum? accountability? Ofsted?) when this goes back not forwards over time. 3/3

There seems to have been a shift over the last 5-10 years to much more external control over behaviour in secondary, based on 'zero tolerance' type approaches pushed by high profile educators. So we have a split between a self-regulation/agency focus in primary and a control focus in secondary. 2/3

Because I work with both primary and secondary schools and their staff, I get to interact a lot with people working on the ground. From what I'm seeing and hearing, there's a significant gap opening up in the approach used in the different phases. This must be very confusing for young people. 1/3

I saw this comment on X and it was from a pastor - I had to read it 3 times to make sure I had it right! Later on he says the actions of ICE would make Jesus smile. American Christian Nationalists have nothing whatever to do with Christianity.
A pastor saying that God has to use the state to put communist clergy in their place.
