For every €1 provided through a Basic Income For Artists pilot program in Ireland, the government got €1.46 back. So it’s being made permanent.

Over and over we see it. It saves public money to provide public housing. And it makes public money to provide basic income.

We can’t afford to NOT do it.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

It was a good night. Ben Moor's costume was fake tattoo sleeves (I mean, they were actual sleeves, but the sort you can take off) and some people actually asked him if they were real.

OMG I have found it the photo! (Copyright Isabelle Adam.)
As decribed. Prince Charming era Adam Ant, having to have a bit of a sit down on the pavement outside the pub.

A lot of people were very impressed.
I do think the early '80s might have a lot to answer for regards my taste in men. Formative years.

Anyway, he was spotted sat on the pavement outside at the end of the night, propping up a lamp-post, an image burned into my brain for all time.

Did I ever tell you about my friend Cat's 30th birthday, which had a 'rock/pop star' theme? Someone (to this day, no idea) turned up in full Prince Charming rig, and he was spotted walking towards the pub through the big front window. The EXCITEMENT. Just over someone pretending in a pretend version

Not everything is in a glass case, but that is. Probably to stop women of a certain age jumping on it.

That outfit is in the V&A, and I didn't realise until I saw it there. I Made a Noise.

I have a new book out this week, #IntoTheGroove, a month-by-month guide to 1980s pop and I shall be liveposting to this #totp from 1981 with some related thoughts.

I can't figure out how to share it, but I got it in 1 as well, honestly!

The nuclear block, which I love as an alternative to arguing with the unarguable with (TERF/MAGA Be Gone!) maybe has a downside, in that it encourages people to just straight shove other people in the bin.

It's the same problem as on Twitter, where, don't forget, normal people used to hang out. People assume bad intent or stupidity and then respond nastily for no reason, thinking themselves the goodies. I recall one of the Pod Save America crew referring to people 'Crossing the Delaware' on Twitter.

I mailed out today to my Mailing List Friends about upcoming shows, information about my new book, things I saw in Edinburgh in August and a few supercool book tips.
To receive my very occasional messages, why not sign up via the Linktree in my bio - there's also ticket links there to the shows...

Well, I got lectured on the completely fucking obvious the other day, so I've had enough of this place for a bit.

Just...try not to assume the other person is stupid or a total bastard. It makes communication easier.

I hate online arguments more than anything. I have a hangover. I need to drink less and be online less.

I need to look after my mental health. I was suicidally depressed for a long time. I am a lot better since I moved house to live by the sea. I go out more and read more. I think another thing I need to do is spend less time online.

The last straw was being lectured on people of colour being stopped by police far more than white people for no good reason. Like I fell out of my space capsule last week and haven't walked this earth for 51 years.

I was obviously agreeing that the proposed digital thing is a load of arse and almost certainly dangerous, but I do think the root of that is British people, all of them, not being able to be normal about just needing a sodding ID card, like you've never been asked for ID.
