The most used and often misapplied or overdone image adjustment for publication figures is contrast.

As a result, GECIs have an impressive contrast and large fold-changes in intensity. This enables in vivo imaging in complex tissue. ⬇️ This is one of my favourite examples - imaging neuronal activity in a Zebrafish brain
