I’m a little iffy on King but it would nice to beat the Sox on a free agent twice in the same off-season.
Sources: Red Sox, Yankees, and Orioles are competing for Michael King and the RHP from BC hopes to make a decision soon.

King, 30, was 18-12, 3.10 for the Padres the last two seasons. Profiles as the No. 2 the Sox need. We'll see if they step up.

King certainly knows the terrain of the AL East.

The only way I can see Mayo staying is if they trade O’Neill and get Mayo some time in RF. He’d also get time at 1B/DH, maybe with Basallo sitting against most lefties. Mounty would also need to go in this case.

FanGraphs Depth Charts now has the Orioles 9th in overall projected WAR.

They're 3rd in batting WAR (just behind the Yankees and Dodgers), but 20th in pitching WAR. The next steps should be pretty clear. Can't stop now.

I’m coming around on Gore. Assuming Mayo’s in the package, sign Alonso (Okamoto as backup plan). Then, crucially, sign Imai.

All that plus Helsley and Ward would be an A- IMO.

If we're being honest, the Orioles need to add 2 starting pitchers this offseason.

Ideally something like:

1. Addition
2. Bradish
3. Rogers
4. Addition
5. Kremer

And Cabrera would be an excellent 2nd addition.

Gotta go after King, Imai or Valdez still. But would be a good get

I think I’d take Gore over Cabrera, all things equal. I see Cabrera with a smidge higher upside based on stuff and the extra year of control is really valuable, but Gore is a much safer bet to give you 30 GS/150 IP with quality results, and they really need that.

I'll say this, if the Orioles do trade Coby Mayo, I hope for his sake it can be to Miami. He'd at least get to go home and be with Norby and Stowers. Just feels wholesome.

Coby Mayo has a fucking canon for an arm

Teach him to play an outfield position and put him in left

Don’t do this, Mike. We literally cannot handle it.
Mike Elias, on the Orioles’ free agent pursuits, said he is focused on ways to improve the lineup without specifically worrying about position yet.

Elias said there is payroll room for large additions in the lineup and rotation

The Orioles are one of only two MLB teams with three RHH OFs on their 40-man roster who have a wRC+ better than 110 since the beginning of 2024 (min. 150 MLB PA):

Tyler O'Neill (120 wRC+)
Taylor Ward (114 wRC+)
Jeremiah Jackson (117 wRC+)

The other is the Mariners (Julio, Arozarena, Robles).

The Orioles are now reported to be in on Framber, Suarez, Imai and King. The Post has them involved in Schwarber. They’re pursuing more relievers.

They’re either going to land one or two big names or take the “we tried” crown.
