Every year in Metro Vancouver, car crashes kill 100 people. We can get to zero by demanding that governments design transportation systems to put safety first. http://linkin.bio/visionzeroyvr
We know the city can do better because just a couple blocks away, Westminster Highway has a pretty nice protected 2-way multi purpose path, keeping cyclists and pedestrians safe. (2/2)

Very sad to hear about a fatal hit and run of a cyclist who was riding to work on Westminster Highway today. A really dangerous shoulder on this road, Richmond must do better. (1/2)

The only reply we got was from the Office of the Premier, informing us that the Minister of Transportation would reply to us "as soon as possible" - this was 4 months ago and we've not heard back since, despite following up.

We're publicizing this because ... (4/5)

In September, we emailed local politicians informing them of the dangers and recommending changes. Full email here (also see alt text).

We ended the email saying: "With fatalities happening at this frequency, it's only a matter of time before another innocent life is lost." That day came. (3/5)

Reminder that TransLink is FREE tonight after 5pm! With additional service too.

Have a great night tonight and plan to get home safe! Happy New Years from us at VZV 🎉

Lucy encourages council to vote for the referral to make sure the work gets done. Passes unanimously. Hard to know what to conclude here. We could have just got this done; now we have to wait. Hope this does ultimately lead to the change we want to see.

Clr @lisadominato.bsky.social back on. Wants to clear up a misconception: the entire city team is undertaking a significant VZ review, not just the consultant. (She seems to forget that her motion refers it directly to the consultant).

$13.4 million.

But Ken Sim said we can't afford $10M for active transport lanes on Broadway because "we don't live in la la land."

Crossing the street shouldn't be a gamble on your life. We want to end traffic fatalities in our region, not with shame flags and pedestrian education but with real action and systems change. We need your help to fund our work. Please donate if you can! www.zeffy.com/en-CA/donati...

Have any of you experienced something like this (or worse) due to dangerous conditions caused by a driver turning right on red?

Please send us photos or videos! Reply here, DM us, or send us an email: contact(at) visionzerovancouver .ca

The results are clear. Painted lanes lead to more cyclists being killed or seriously injured. Cycle tracks (i.e. protected lanes) are much safer and lead to huge increases in cycling.

This is data from Vancouver. Our politicians should stop ignoring it.

Bus lanes are being expanded and extended on Main and Kingsway. Great to see some progress on this file!

This day is an important reminder that the people who die on our roads are just that - real people. Almost all the locations we visited today had nothing still marking the incident, if they ever did at all. We hope that the posters and flowers we brought will help people pause and think.

Today is World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. One of our volunteers @margiesanderson.bsky.social spent the morning postering locations where pedestrians have been killed this year in Vancouver alone.

The 2026 Vancouver budget risks imposing cuts to road safety initiatives that we simply can't afford. With so few details being released, we call upon council to amend the budget to direct that essential transportation programs and staff be protected.

On Friday we had the opportunity to host a "Roadmap to Vision Zero" discussion hosted by Vancouver Coastal Health. Over 30 elected leaders, decision makers, stakeholders and activists joined for a very engaging and productive discussion. Thanks to all who participated!

When a Vision Zero advocate, a Conservative MLA, and every single morning radio caller agree on an issue, you know something's up.

Listen here, on the NDP's decision to jeopardize safety on our roads by reducing the already insufficient amount of driver training:

Very frustrating to still see public campaigns like this from Delta PD telling kids to wear bright reflectors on their costumes and people to leave their bikes at home.

The risk to pedestrians on Halloween comes from drivers, not cyclists.
