This week the intro to ethics class I’m tutoring on is reading Kant’s groundwork. Edinburgh graffiti has this to say. @guyfletcher.bsky.social
Red graffiti on a black metal handrail that reads “KANT” followed by a sad smiley face.

Hahah probably! That and the sheer audacity of someone writing not one but three books “on what matters”…

Plus quite a few philosophical ones I listened to while pipetting in a lab… 🧪 📻

Oh I remember driving somewhere and introducing my partner to IOT via the Antigone episode; and recently listened to the Hadrian’s Wall episode (was it out of vanity?); and also enjoyed the Garibaldi/risorgimento episode…!

The world is a blurred version
of itself—
marred, lovely, and flawed.
It is enough.

Arrived in Groningen for the @epsaphilsci.bsky.social conference starting tomorrow! #philsci #philsky
Picture taken facing west over a canal in Groningen, steel-blue clouds and hints of orange sky, an eight-oared tall rowing boat in the centre with a little light swinging just behind the coxswain, trees lining the right side, boats and buildings on the left.

Some positive news- and I was one of the 2,147! 🚲
edtiss.bsky.social
The cycle lane on Leith Walk, Edinburgh, set an all time record of 2,147 cyclists on Wednesday, 13th August 2025.

Overall growth in the number of cyclists has slowed this year, likely a result of displacememnt to the new CCWEL cycle lane at York Place.

Also Vrinda Dalmiya (again, not a philosopher of language but a feminist epistemologist) has a book in which she analyses stories/passages from the Mahābhārata!

Philip Kitcher has a book on Finnegans Wake and an edited volume on Ulysses (although he isn’t a philosopher of language and I haven’t read any of this work…)

It is somehow reassuring that even Sally Haslanger (in her 2016 paper on social structural explanations) "remains confused"... #philsky
Screenshot of a footnote from Sally Haslanger's 2016 paper "What is a (social) structural explanation?". The note reads, "There is much more that needs to be elucidated about the phenomenon of structural explanation. I remain confused and have not yet taken advantage of the many suggestions offered to me at the Oberlin Colloquium. For that I apologize."

The publishers even sent me a copy, which I was not expecting!
Picture of a dark blue hardback book called Values, Pluralism, and Pragmatism: Themes from the Work of Matthew J. Brown. The book is lying face-up on wooden table with a light blue place mat. The same book opened at chapter six on Ludwik Fleck and science communication.

The 2.1 million people trapped in the war zone that is #Gaza are facing yet another killer on top of bombs and bullets: starvation.

We demand full access to deliver aid.
We demand the release of all hostages.
We demand a ceasefire.
We demand a political solution.
