Slightly baffled that the council has already integrated Elm Row-style pavement parking into their design for what's supposed to be a public space.

It's going to be chaos without any bollards. That pram's going to get runover by a double-cab pickup truck.

We've began work on our £3.5m transformation project of Queensferry High Street and the town centre.

These improvements will create a safer, more accessible, and vibrant environment for residents, visitors, and businesses alike.

Yep. It's not like anyone's brought up bollards before...

It just needs enforcement. There is nothing legal about this driver behaviour at Elm Row.

I'm sure I'm not that only one making endless reports to the council about it, for no action to be taken.

So much for side-on parking on Elm Row - drivers parked right into the cycleway and on the pedestrian access/crossing to the bus stop. @jackrmcaldwell.bsky.social

But we need 922 just to satisfy our current waiting list...

This map shows demand for secure cycle hangars in Edinburgh, with plenty of bubbles over #Bruntsfield, #Merchiston, #Polwarth & #Shandon. We've long encouraged residents to request cycle hangars and signal demand to @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social - we hope they will soon get the message!

Presenting: the case for more bike parking on George Street #Edinburgh
A completely full bike rack

This is our bicycle storage solution...

The most requests have come in from people living on Easter Road; the largest waiting list is at West Montgomery Street with 100 people waiting for a spot in 2 hangars.

Thanks to Edinburgh Council for making the data available here: www.edinburgh.gov.uk/homepage/104...

There are 1,500 people who have made a request for a hangar on their street and 2,900 people who are on a waiting list for an existing hangar. Only 1,200 spots are currently provided - the same as last year despite promises to increase the number: democracy.edinburgh.gov.uk/documents/s7...

There are now 4,400 people waiting for a spot in a secure cycle hangar in Edinburgh - that figure has grown by nearly 1,000 in just the last year. My map of hangars and demand can be found here: rpubs.com/edtiss/hangars

I love cycling and I love the mad lads at Calmac.

I aimed for a gap in the waves and completely missed.

Hello @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social - the temp lights at the top of Regent Road don't allow enough time for uphill cyclists to get through the traffic phase, leading to an awkward standoff with an apologetic bus driver.

Could you have it adjusted?
edtiss.bsky.social
Not my patch but I think you'll want a 100% guarantee that cycle hangars will be installed as part of this work.

The waiting list stretches into the thousands and there is no sign of progress - that response from the council is an effective "no". I'll publish some data on this shortly.
edtiss.bsky.social
I shall provide my own update then. Watch this space.
edtiss.bsky.social
Does anyone know how the installation of cycle hangars is going? We were promised 380 in Edinburgh by the end of 2025.

I've actually phoned 999 once before for a conventional motorbike going down the paths at speed (shortly after the BMW incident).

Funny how it's never occurred to me do it for the regular e-motorcycles doing the same.
edtiss.bsky.social
I'd be interested to know if seeing an e-motorcycle on the path network warrants a 999 call. It's dangerous driving in close proximity to pedestrians and cyclists.

@spokes.org.uk do we have a police contact we can ask?
edtiss.bsky.social
I'm a regular runner and cyclist on the Blackhall Path. There is an ongoing issue with balaclava-clad individuals zipping about on e-motorcycles.

The police have been great with foot patrols but we really need them on bikes (including motorbikes) to deter this kind of thing.

Police Scotland latest stats are out and still not managing to break that magical 10 per day mark for mobile phone offences.

Pretty sure you could go to any fairly busy junction in Edinburgh and catch more than 10 in an hour.
A screen grab of an Excel table of traffic offence stats for Police Scotland.

Low detection, low punishment. You can use your phone all day, have it all caught on camera, go on to to kill an 11-year old and...

12 month driving ban.

Edinburgh Council's response to increasing cyclist casualties?

Spending thousands on ripping out the few bits of good infrastructure we have.
