Having just done a big follow of loads of starter packs, just a quick intro to me: I post about political communication and journalism (UK mostly), often for teaching, sometimes about space/science documentary, and a lot recently about how awful gen AI is.

Not sure whether someone close to them should call Prevent or their local social services.

Some of these people need prison, some need sectioning.

These people are truly appalling. I am bewildered by them.

Ask him if his double-seat, double-seat routine would still work today. I don't imagine he's been on a train since he did it mind you.

They could not give a flying fuck for things belonging to people could they?

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

feels like yet again time to mention that the *videogames* industry (that's a creative industry, which people do creative degrees in) brings in more than twice the amount to the British economy as the fishing and steel industries *combined*

I cannot understand what these people think the purpose of human life is?

It is *not* "pursue joy, deal justly, love well, try to understand as much and see as much of this beautiful world and of the deepness, richness and variety of human culture and experience as you can before you die"?

The poison they put into HE is being added to by the current government, whose leaders are cut from the same cloth, and are actively trying to kill parts of HE. If the Tories ever got back into power they'd find about 5 universities left, teaching only medicine, law and business.

For many places, if they don't change the rules sufficiently, it will be like the armies of the dead in Lord of the Rings for many places. Submissions full of long departed souls. How on earth PCE can work like that, who knows.

It does not give a flying fuck about copyright. It's all just training data that it will take without consent, attribution or remuneration.

This is why Comms scholars are so unfairly neglected. We were doing conference sessions involving beer tasting in IAMCR a decade ago.

Thread 🧵

@bylinetimes.bsky.social can now reveal that, during the crucial period when convicted Reform leader Nathan Gill was most active, working directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s most senior ally in Ukraine, he was also one of Nigel Farage’s closest confidantes 1/12
‘Thick as Thieves’: Nathan Gill and Nigel Farage’s Putin Problem

The fishing industry is tiny though isn't it. The whole workforce would fit into a modest football stadium. Funny how it became so important in Brexit whilst some many times greater were ignored then, and still ignored now.

No prior attainment and claiming unearned credit? You sound like you're describing the deal between Oxford and OpenAI.

Apart from it being an issue at the absolute bottom of the public's concerns, I just don't understand why the government is just kicking HE to bits.
vpcampbell.bsky.social
They're just not going to do anything about the collapse in HE and claim it as strategy.
vpcampbell.bsky.social
Unfortunately, most of the universities are about to close.
vpcampbell.bsky.social
I'm reading this a different way to many it seems. To me that are saying that they are welcoming the ongoing collapse of HE, explicitly promising to do nothing about that, whilst pretending that they will do something about FE and apprenticeships to make up the difference.

New from me: a *free* short version of my Political Quarterly piece on universities... The issue is settled now: the massified and accessible Higher Education system we have spent tens of billions building since the 1970s is coming to an end. (1/2)

Where now for Britain’s Universities?
UK higher education now faces a very bleak future, retreating in the face of little public sympathy and limited political interest.

AI medical tools found to downplay symptoms of women, ethnic minorities

Bias-reflecting LLMs lead to inferior medical advice for female, Black, and Asian patients.

None of this should be surprising, considering the terribly flawed data that these tools are based upon. Garbage in, garbage out.

I'm too worried about them falling when someone tried to pick them up to notice.
