Me, in February: the Trump Admin is going to try to force the EU to withdraw or weaken CBAM and the CSDDD. www.gla.ac.uk/explore/glas...

The FT this morning: www.ft.com/content/678f...

The planet cannot afford for Brussels to give Washington what it wants here.
Moreover, the EU is moving forward with its own trade restriction, a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which imposes tariffs on imports that don’t meet European environmental standards. The UK will adopt a similar system in 2027, aligning itself with Europe to secure smooth UK access to critical commodities. While the Biden Administration was in discussions about a plan to bring the US into this “climate club,” the Trump Administration is rapidly reversing US climate commitments. Indeed, the Administration has singled out countries imposing regulatory tariffs as potential targets for its country-by-country tariffs. As a result, by 2027, the UK will face a binary choice between regulatory alignment with (and market access to) Europe and a trade confrontation with the United States. The current “wait-and-see” approach prolongs, but does not resolve, this dilemma. FT headline: US demands EU dismantle green regulations in threat to trade deal

On Yom Kippur many Jewish people in Britain have their phones off to mark the holy day.

As it ends at 723pm, some will hear the tragic Manchester news for the first time.

At that time, please join many of us to send a message of solidarity to British Jews. Thanks Together coalition for proposing.
To everyone in Britain's Jewish Community: you are not alone.

We will not let hate or those who spread it win.

We stand with you.

Absolutely horrific news coming from Manchester about the stabbing at a synagogue on the holy day of Yom Kippur 💔

No one should have to experience this sort of senseless violence & be targeted for who they are

We stand in complete solidarity with Jews across the four nations of the UK ❤️✡️

I do think we sometimes forget:
1. We need high-skilled migrants to keep the NHS working, and to grow the economy
2. High-skilled migrants have a *lot* of choices over where to go

And

3. We’ve been getting less attractive as a destination for years anyway (wages here famously suck)

Long overdue move. It's time that affiliated unions realise that there are true alternatives and they don't have to be chained to the Red Tories

In my constituency, Bangor Aberconwy, Plaid Cymru got 22% of the vote last time. And this poll seems to think that's going to go down by 5%?

Ridiculous poll that's not worth the pixels it's being displayed in.

Growing up, I was a WW 2 buff. I was always incredulous that citizens of Nazi Germany lived blissfully ignorant of the Holocaust's horrors

We see for ourselves now how Israeli citizens frolick on the beach & talk "resilience" even as babies starve in a genocide in Gaza

This is a choice of the VC. With ”under 10 posts” at risk, he could have ruled out compulsory redundancies & let departments get on with their planning

Instead, we have: “A university is in chaos with no clarity on who is teaching what amid a swathe of job cuts”

The fact that Your Party is developing organised factions before it even has a name or formal membership reminds me of the old joke about two Trot parties walk into a unity meeting and four walk out

These people couldn't organise a circus let alone a political party.

Good alternatives to the red tories already exist.

Plaid Cymru in Wales, the SNP and Greens in Scotland, and the Lib Dems and Greens in England

I don’t know when it’s going to pop for a lot of normies that they are living under an authoritarian regime, but the cancellation of popular TV shows that make fun of the administration might do it www.vulture.com/article/abc-...

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

The remarks weren’t “about Charlie Kirk,” they were about how this administration is using Kirk’s death as an excuse to shut down critics … and they responded by proving him completely correct.

First past the post is not fit for purpose in this political environment. If democracy is to mean anything, the UK Government must bring in proportional representation so that ALL voters' voices are heard.
robfordmancs.bsky.social
If we confine ourselves to England and Wales (NI and Scotland have had fragmented systems for longer) the figure is 6 seats won with less than 30% in 2024, and 2 seats won with a share below 30% in all elections from 1945-2024.

And only 2 seats won with under 30% anywhere in UK between 1923 & 2001
samfr.bsky.social
Since WW2, 19 seats in Westminster have been won with less than 30% of the vote. Ten of those were last year. They'll be a lot more next time.
