The word "let" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. These parents are less mature than their fully adult children. Their minds turn to surveillance due to paranoia.

Ja jeg sa "voksne" og ikke barn fordi i disse debattene er det første som skjer at den ene parten blir delegitimisert på bakgrunn av alder, og dermed blir det allerede sådd mistro om man er i stand til å handle i sin egen beste mening.

Foreldregenerasjonen har et genuint problem med autonomi.

This paranoia and sense of ownership lead to the sorts of human rights abuses that cut parents off from their children permanently. Parents feeling this paranoia should get therapy, not give in to their worst impulses. Don't let the BBC legitimise this. Nobody wins except the surveillance companies!
