hearing from our UK correspondents -- passive-aggressively, via subtweets that do not mention me explicitly -- that i have not been awarded any major literary prizes today.

the guy who caught cal raleigh’s homer was wearing a shirt that said dump 61 here and he immediately took it off and had a shirt that said dump 62 here

olhhhhhh yeah. thomson has your back on that one:

'enjoying a novel' ≠ 'identifying and endorsing its politics'

a capitalist way: you can get away with poisoning the world *no matter who knows it* so long as you outlive all the people who know. you can rule foreverever in hell. the eminent devil's domain

i like the nasty irony of giving an 'Eastern' name to what's something like a Western story, about the original sin behind the birth of the USA and the old west. to me the story/ending never feels like a joke at anyone's expense...

jesus christ i just imagined judge holden as noah cross. ugh

i've been pestering friends to read CADILLAC DESERT--incredible, furious book about water in USA west. he gives a capsule account of the real mulholland's work in california; it's horrifying in a way his character in the film isn't. feels almost like C'TOWN's ending figures *that* blood-inheritance

i love how thomson writes about movies. i don't know (and can't be bothered to look up) what the original ending was, which he alludes to earlier in his Chinatown section. the filmed ending makes me feel the way polanski's stuff does, like a miscarriage at a dinner party

i suspect no one will, over this thing with the CEO. there's nowhere else to go that's the specific kind of terrible that the bsky crew obvsly wants.

A Texas megachurch pastor and GOP leader has been arrested for crimes against children. Not Robert Morris, a different one. Not Josiah Anthony, a different one. Not Luke Cunningham, a different one. Not Tony Evans, a different one. Not Scott Crenshaw, a different one. Not Steve Lawson, a different o

This is the first and hopefully last American administration whose late night Twitter rants directly drive policy. Unfortunately, improbably, that is why Miller and his deranged impotence still matter

A lot of commentators see strategic planning in what could easily be just emotional outburst from officials full of hate who thought they’d get their way more easily, and go to the friendly confines of X to rant and get emotional support.

Yea, this is about Stephen Miller throwing a fit in public.

it's called the 'department of defense' even if the Airsoft SecDef wants to cosplay as a big man -- pritzker has handled comms well these last months so i wonder what's behind this misplay
govpritzker.illinois.gov
This morning, the Trump Administration’s Department of War gave me an ultimatum: call up your troops, or we will. It is absolutely outrageous and un-American to demand a Governor send military troops within our own borders and against our will.

i'm reasonably confident that the bsky users now loudly proclaiming that this shitnetwork is 'broken' aren't going to mastodon or anywhere else.

'i want exactly the same dogpiles and shitposting and epistemic closure as twitter, but i don't ever want to hear from people with politics to the right of elizabeth warren' is a terrible idea *because* of the dogpiles and shitposting and epistemic closure--with or without blocklists.

i'll bet $10 that the third number is actually ≥95%, and it won't make any difference at all, since the mastodon nonstart is neat empirical proof that the bsky crowd don't want something saner than twitter, they want 'twitter but only my tribe,' which bsky still obvsly is

fwiw from my vantage point there’s a slice of Bluesky that is incandescently mad at Jay, a slightly larger slice of Bluesky that’s vaguely aware there’s drama, and like 85% of the pie that is totally unaware anything is going on

it really is a shockingly common thing on this shitbag 'social' network to use 'misinformation' to mean 'stuff i don't want to hear'

there's such a thing as actual misinformation! and 'information i insist i can't handle hearing' *might* be it, but probably isn't!

is 'bravissimo' a word? well: that.
