Obesity and alcohol are two key risk factors for cancer, which is why we were delighted to see the Chancellor expand the soft drinks levy and increase alcohol duty in today’s Budget.

The forthcoming National Cancer Plan must build on these welcome steps by placing prevention at its heart.

An estimated 6.3 million new cancer cases will be diagnosed between now and 2040. Around 40% of these are preventable.
Prevention by addressing modifiable risk factors such as obesity and alcohol must therefore be a priority of the forthcoming National Cancer Plan #OneCancerVoice

Today the UK government published new voluntary guidelines on commercial baby food intended for children up to 36 months. They aim to reduce the levels of salt and sugar in these products and make labelling clearer to support parents.

Great to see infant feeding being raised as a matter of policy priority for the UK Parliament by @jessbrownfullermp.bsky.social, who made it clear that the promise by Secretary of State for Health to create the “healthiest generation ever” cannot be met unless infant feeding is prioritised.
