Today’s bloodbath at NWS reminds me of discussions over the years about the limits of predictability in weather forecasting. I would have never guessed that we’re gonna hit that limit in the US because of two insane rich guys.

Looks like consultants at least are trying to pick up physical climate scientists in opportunistic hires.

NOAA is taking heavy losses today. Hope the rest of the community will do what we can to help scientists land on their feet.

The NWS is now experiencing wide firing/layoffs. This is insane. The NWS is one of the best forms of govt public service there is. The NWS isn't flawless but goodness, firing and reducing an already understaffed and underfunded agency is just wrong. There will be profound repercussions to this.

NOAA's Environmental Modeling Center:

They are responsible for the development and implementation of more than 20 numerical prediction systems — transitioning these systems into operations for National Weather Service, with the goal of expanding that reach to the broader meteorology community.

The ramifications of gutting the federal government will ripple long after Trump is gone.

Who wants to serve a country that'll toss them to the wolves the moment groceries get too expensive?

Last Tuesday, I was set to give a talk on 'climate change in the Northeast' at a retirement home but had to cancel due to hourly job threats.

After nearly two weeks of overwhelming uncertainty, today it happened. I was fired from my dream of working at NOAA. I'm so sorry to everyone also affected.

All probationary federal employees at NOAA’s EMC that’s responsible for keeping all US weather model systems running have been fired with 1 hours notice. And that includes me and colleagues. We will not go quietly because we care about the NOAA mission to protect the public.

NOAA/NWS folks who were fired today, you’re in my heart. If you need to vent, ask questions, anything…my DMs are open to you. I wish I could do something more concrete than to say I’m sorry, you didn’t deserve this.
