Short story writer. Retired academic cardiologist. I teach at Writers Studio. I live in San Francisco and west Sonoma County with my wife Bobbi and Kerry Blue terrier Trey. Socialist, sentimentalist, grew up in Canada near Toronto but American now too.
My short story, "The Rowboat", published in Doric Literary today, describes a fictional cardiologist's visit to Ukraine to lecture, in 2016.

"There go my people, I must find out where they are going so I can lead them," said Alexandre Auguste Ledru-Rollin, French Head of State in 1848... but it sounds like members of congress in 2026 trying to get in front of shifting public opinion on ICE.

Another good practice for the New Year would be for all the non-fascists in America who want to opine about politics to really begin believing that urban America is Real America & that its denizens are The Authentic People. Get some self-respect & drop the volkish nationalist view that they're not
And I think liberals should stop taking the bait and ceding ground on immigration.
