I saw this happen in real time when I was teaching in higher ed in Oklahoma before and during the first Trump presidency. There is no coming back to any kind of "moderate" stage for those young men and women, and why Democrats think they can win them over beats me.
I see groups like the Reagan Caucus that insist they can still change the GOP from the inside and viciously criticize Never Trumpers who leave the party or vote for Democrats, and I just feel like it's mostly delusional denialism at this point. There is no moderate future for the Republican Party.
