He/him. Running on bitterness and coffee. Are you ready for the red scare 2: anti-woke edition? “The tradition of all dead generations weighs like a nightmare on the brains of the living.”

“All Southerners Are Literally Hitler” posting doesn’t help. “All Southerners Just Need Class Consciousness” doesn’t help. You need to learn from older generations of Southern liberals and the failures of things like abolishing the poll tax to try to chart a path forward.

Southerners who aren’t willing to acknowledge the evils of many in their states don’t help. Neither do ppl who seem to get a kick out of mocking ppl for not living in a “nice enough” city. Moving is hard, especially rn. Don’t be a dick.

Frankly, I believe there needs to be stronger federal intervention in the region to rebalance things to advantage cities. That would be necessary for Reconstruction 2.

Two things are important here: The South has traditionally been seen as the mirror or aberration of the US. Everything bad about the country is most obvious here, whether you see it as fundamental or contrary to American society.

Because of this reputation, evil ppl move here and reinforce it.

-I find posts that pathologize Southern culture using evil politics as an excuse frankly a bit bigoted. You are just reinforcing racists’ ideas that Southern = White+Rural. Cornbread and grits aren’t evil bc some ppl who performatively attach themselves to it are.

-The Urban South exists and is pretty blue. It is actively enslaved by rural domination in state govs. My city is one of those. Non-evil Southerners need to be thinking about how to change this. Non-Southerners are going to need to help.
whatifrealhist.bsky.social
-Southerners who aren’t evil need to come to terms with this. I’m personally all for punishment of Southern state govs for their actions and I know I’ll be affected.
-None of this means the South has to stay so uncompetitive as a whole.
whatifrealhist.bsky.social
Is the South Evil? Is a discourse that I find annoying and unhelpful.

Multiple things can be true at the same time:
-Southern state governments are usually pretty bad.
-The majority of white voters in the South vote for evil policies and evil candidates.

I spoke to a Venezuelan woman who was arrested in this raid and later released with her 4yo son. She said agents broke down their door, pointed guns at them and made sexualized remarks about Venezuelan women. When she returned to her apartment it was boarded up and all her possessions were gone.

Call people poor, backwards, burdens or parasites on the State. Then attack them and take everything they have. Repeat. The American white supremacy playbook.

This reminds me of the looting of Black homes that would happen after large acts of racial violence by white mobs in the early 20th c South like Elaine and Rosewood.

i have to say, as a trans journalist who has covered the "trans debate" for about a decade now, there is no daylight between how the trump administration and conservatives lie about tylenol and autism and how they've lied about youth trans care.

Conservatives love to encounter a very basic tenet of Christianity that's incompatible with conservatism and go "this sounds like something my BITCH WIFE made up"
A tweet by bald racist nerd Stefan Molyneux reading “Until about five minutes ago, when women took over Christianity, unrepentant sinners were ostracized and punished, not "forgiven."”

Kind of weird how Roberts declared the VRA preclearance to rest on dated and unfair assumptions about the South and within 15 years the former Confederate states will have effectively eliminated almost every black district within those states.

Missouri Republicans today passed a new gerrymander that would break apart the Democratic district in Kansas City, which would flip a seat to the GOP. (The governor is expected to sign it.) www.kansascity.com/news/politic...
Missouri senators pass gerrymandered map that slashes through Kansas City
The vote marked a pivotal moment in Missouri, potentially altering the political makeup of Kansas City for years.

Comer: "We're gonna support doing this in other cities if it works out in Washington DC. We spend a lot on our military. Our military has been in many countries around the world for the past two decades walking the streets trying to reduce crime. We need to focus on the big cities in America now."

"What if Democrats are on the list?"

I'm sure some are, and are the ones who should be purged and cast into the lake of fire.

America is beautiful, contradictory, unfinished. I am proud of our country even as we constantly strive to make it better, to protect and deepen our democracy, to fulfill its promise for each and every person who calls it home.

Happy Independence Day. No Kings in America.

The existence of the East African Indian diaspora is a really fascinating artifact of Imperial globalization and a great example of how much more complex and interconnected our world is than we realize, so of course the American intelligentsia takes it as a personal insult.

What even is the story guys
In an interview on Thursday, Mr. Mamdani, 33, said he did not consider himself either Black or African American, but rather “an American who was born in Africa.” He said his answers on the college application were an attempt to represent his complex background given the limited choices before him, not to gain an upper hand in the admissions process. (He was not accepted at Columbia.)

have the people who thought Cuomo would win because "I stand with Israel" was the top issue for NYC Dem primary voters considered that maybe they are trapped in an information bubble by getting their news through a social media platform that isn't representative of reality?
