Love this picture, wish I knew the artist!

@lukeepplin.bsky.social Would love to know this, I think it’s one of Schulz’s best things as it made Snoopy more of CB’s companion.
@schulzmuseum.bsky.social How many times did Schulz use the picture of Snoopy and Charlie Brown on the dock?

@hupplescat.bsky.social Do you know much about Marine officer Israel Greene? He resigned in May of 1861 and was curious where he was stationed at then; he’s famous for leading Marines at Harpers Ferry as you probably know. Ironic that he ‘went South’; born and raised in the North, married a VA girl.

My wife’s last day of work was today, I’m jealous but really happy for her, she deserves a nice long retirement, over 20 years service as a special needs teacher. Can’t wait to retire myself! This was the crew at Thanksgiving, had a great time.

@naomijwilliams.bsky.social Hi Naomi, hope your doing well, I was thinking on your ‘Landfalls’ the other day, I mentioned it to a French Naval historian who tweeted about the expedition. How’s the Japanese poet book going, so want to read more of your work and that one is a fascinating topic.

@lukeepplin.bsky.social Interesting take; I know many folks think
the strip came to be dominated too much by Snoopy…not me though!

@clarelmoore.bsky.social As a Tolkien scholar I assume you come into contact with Lewis scholars; are you aware of any work done by anyone dealing with themes of colonialism in Narnia, especially ‘The Horse and his boy’? Big Tolkien and Lewis fan, did not read either until my 20’s.

@katzish.bsky.social I saw your mention on Twitter about the Moby Dick marathon in New Bedford, I hope to attend that one day; huge fan of the novel, Melville and nautical history. As a poet do you like Melville’s prose or verse?

@ww2historygal.bsky.social Great book haul today in Williamsburg at ‘Turn the Page.’ All this for 50 bucks!

As I begin 10 days of vacation I’m reminded of this great truth from Herman Melville.

‘Whoever is not in the possession of leisure can hardly be said to possess independence. They talk of the dignity of work. Bosh…..99 hundreths of all the work done in the world is either foolish..harmful..wicked.’

@avboccia.bsky.social Really enjoying this one, just finished reading about the Washington Naval Conference of 1922. So many strong personalities that served
at that meeting!

@lukeepplin.bsky.social Would love to know how often and when he first used the the pier panel. It’s always hit me in so many levels.

Happy 75th bday to the Peanuts!
Ronald Reagan was a big fan created by cartoonist Charles M. Schulz. President and Mrs. Reagan often exchanged Peanuts cards. Here's a book gifted from Schulz himself with a Snoopy drawing titled “Head Beagle” in honor of President Reagan.

@lukeepplin.bsky.social Forgive me if I’ve asked this before but I recall your wife is from the Hill country of TX and was curious if she recalls the Monarch butterflies going through the area this time every year. I understand Texas and especially around San Antonio is in the path they go to Mexico

@shipwreckspod.bsky.social I got your package today, thanks so much!! I did not have it, one of my favorite battlefields. Just started this massive one, over 500 pages! This is an old shipmate of mine from a few years back at Chickamauga/Chattanooga; thanks for the SeaDog sticker and bookmarks too!

@lukeepplin.bsky.social I wonder how many times Schulz used the one panel pier scene? To me it’s one of the most moving of his aspects as it brings into focus the simplicity of a boy and his dog.
