Saying it loud for the people in the back,

"we should be guranteeing HEALTH CARE TO ALL AMERICANS AS A HUMAN RIGHT."
sanders.senate.gov
At a time when we should be guaranteeing health care to all Americans as a human right, President Trump and his Republican colleagues are threatening to make our broken system even worse by doubling premiums for more than 20 million Americans.
wholewashington.org
Universal healthcare is not an expense, but an essential investment.

A healthier population fuels ambition and motivation to contribute to society. That vital spark disappears when your people are sick and struggling.

WEST VIRGINIAN: “If the subsidies go away I won’t have health insurance. I won’t go to the doctor. This really is a life or death situation.” #TrumpShutdown #TrumpHealthCareTax

(This shutdown is making the case for #MedicareForAll better than we ever could)

Why do we pay so much for "just in case," and when that unfortunate event happens, we don't get the service we paid so much for over so many years?
wholewashington.org
What is so difficult to understand is why Americans have to plead to stay alive.

Why do we need a non-medical organization's approval to access the care medical professionals deem necessary? 🧵
wholewashington.org
Yep, those of us who've lived abroad are well aware of what Americans are missing out on at home.

We were all given a price tag so they could monetize our illness.

Deaths are higher in emergency rooms of hospitals owned by private equity firms, per Harvard University.

They did the math: It’s cheaper to let someone die than save them with a procedure they can’t afford.

This is what happens when its profits over people.

The right to a healthy life and accessible healthcare should not depend on your financial status.

Rep. DeLauro: Access to quality, affordable health care is one of the most basic necessities for modern society. You can't force people to choose between paying for their kids' medication or putting food on the table or paying their rent. @delauro.house.gov

Real freedom means your worth is independent of your societal contribution. It exists when no economic barriers prevent you from living the life you desire.

Whether you like it or not, this is our painful truth in America.
wholewashington.org
Even $500/month is too much, especially considering we already pay taxes.

We need universal, single-payer healthcare. We demand a system that is worthy of our hard-earned wages and taxes.
wholewashington.org
@sanders.senate.gov has been fighting for "healthcare for all" for so long, and yet here we are, still debating whether folks should go bankrupt for a broken arm.

Sanders: I am not a great fan of the affordable care act. I believe in medicare for all. I think that health care is a human right, but I will be damned if I'm going to see people in Vermont and around this country see a doubling in their premiums.

Seriously, that's the core single-payer argument: we already spend enough.

If we just cut out the massive insurance overhead and profit, we could afford world-class universal healthcare.

If the US spent what it pays for Health Insurance on actual Healthcare, it could have world class Universal Healthcare.

There are no winners here, only losers. If only we had a single-payer system instead of relying on useless middlemen, this would not even be a thing.
wholewashington.org
One of the biggest upsides of a single-payer healthcare system is that the whole concept of "in-network" and "out-of-network" essentially disappears.
senchrislarson.bsky.social
Here's a perfect encapsulation of our broken healthcare system.

United - the nation's largest insurer, and Ascension - one of the largest hospital systems, could not come to an agreement, so starting today, 1,000s of patients are going to have to find new doctors and new places to receive care.
wholewashington.org
It's wild that we're the only major country where people go broke just for getting sick.

The rest of the developed world has a system that just... covers it.

This is why we need single-payer healthcare, so people can get the care they need without risking financial ruin.

For-profit insurance is not just expensive; they're actively stealing. That money? It's your tax dollars.

Basically, they're committing massive fraud to funnel public funds—money meant for patient care—into their bottom line and executive pockets. It’s highway robbery, paid for by the taxpayer.
wholewashington.org
The whole thing is designed to extract maximum wealth from our pain, and it works flawlessly, as long as you forget the pesky detail that it's actively killing us.

They've made sure that in America, illness is a business opportunity, not a public health crisis.
mikeokuda.bsky.social
America has the highest health care costs, by far. And the poorest life expectancy among developed nations, by far. We are victims of the deadly for-profit healthcare and insurance industries who don't care if you suffer and die prematurely, as long as it's profitable for them.
wholewashington.org
Healthcare, as a basic human right, must be available to every person regardless of their employment status, financial contribution, perceived "worth," or any other measure of societal input.
broadwaybabyto.bsky.social
Healthcare should be a basic human right.

People shouldn’t have to fear bankruptcy for needing the ER.

They shouldn’t end up homeless because they became ill.

They shouldn’t have to “prove they matter” to get Medicaid.

For profit medicine is cruel & punitive.

Universal healthcare saves lives

A healthy population costs everyone less in the long run than an unhealthy one, which is why universal healthcare is generally less expensive for taxpayers than the crippling overhead of private systems.
broadwaybabyto.bsky.social
“Why should my taxes pay for YOUR healthcare?”

Because you live in a society. Part of being in society means contributing to ensure everyone is taken care of

I wish more people would realize the tax dollars they would spend on Universal healthcare would be far less than private insurance premiums
wholewashington.org
The current system's primary outcome is profit generation for pharmaceutical and insurance companies, often at the expense of patient well-being and affordability.

We must for a fundamental shift—moving to a system where healthcare is a guaranteed human right for all Americans.
sanders.senate.gov
The function of the American health care system is to make huge profits for the insurance and drug companies.

Not acceptable.

Our job is to fight for the U.S. to join the rest of the industrialized world and guarantee health care to all as a human right.
wholewashington.org
We are all going to pay for it.

The whole point of a universal system is that everyone contributes their fair share to ensure that no one is left behind.

It’s not an expense; it's a societal investment.
broadwaybabyto.bsky.social
“Who’s going to pay for universal healthcare, affordable housing & social supports? You???”

This is always asked as a gotcha. As though the person expects me to recoil and say of course not.

The answer is Yes.

I would happily pay my fair share to ensure everyone is cared for.
