I'm going to focus on the overt racism in the lyrics of "Opalite" and the focus on "GIRLhood," not "womanhood" when I say that the choice to dismiss criticism of Swift's work as "hate" is racialized and I wish more people would pay attention to the valid critiques being made.

I just watched Taylor on Jimmy Fallon & you know what the best part was? The audience. Mostly ladies, they knew all the words already, they were dancing, smiling, cheering. Wearing their sparkles, cardiagans, & friendship bracelets, making 🫶🏻 hands.

That is the feeling, that is joy and girlhood.
