Hello Bluesky! 👋👋

We are a small group of volunteers in Kennington, Oxfordshire, working on making our village more biodiverse. Our main focus at the moment is improving the wide grass verges next to the main road - see picture.

Will share more about what we've been doing in the coming days/weeks

We'll meet at 10am (Sat Oct 18th) behind the bus stop next to the school, on the Avenue. But don't worry if you're arriving later - we won't be far and will be quite easy to find!

Also, Apple Cafe will be there with hot drinks (and maybe their cakes as well?🤔) so you really don't want to miss it! 😀

This is in just under two weeks! We have LOADS of plug-plants to get through, so we need lots of people to join us and help us beautify and biodiversify (that's a word, right?? 🤔)

Sat Oct 18 10am-12.30pm

email wildaboutkennington [at] gmail .com for more info and to let us know you might be coming

❗Save the Date❗
Kennington & Radley folk on here might like to know that on October 18th we'll hold another Community Wildflower Planting Day: help us make the Kennington verges more wildlife-friendly and more beautiful! 🌼🌱🌷

Saturday Oct 18 10am-12.30 pm
Apple Café will serve a free tea/coffee 1/3

Whoa! That was fast! All the trees in the Oxfordshire Garden Trees Giveaway are now gone. Brilliant to see the enthusiasm around this project 🤩
wildabtkennington.bsky.social
We hope you managed to get your tree, as the order form is now closed! In record time, all the available trees were requested over just a 3-day period.

We are told that there are many pick-ups from our Kennington point, so we look forward to seeing many new native trees in the village! 😊🌱🌳

Native trees are a brilliant addition to your garden! They're good for biodiversity & they will provide shade, which will be ever more important as our summers become hotter.

Now you can get one for free via @cagoxfordshire.bsky.social and ITF, and our local Kennington collection point

Apply here 👇

Don't wait too long to fill that form though, we are told that trees are going fast, and as they say - when they're gone, they're gone! 😃

Make sure you order your tree soon, before they run out...

(And if you're in Kennington area, there is a local pickup spot again, like last year)

🤔 Can you name these two different types of gall spotted at Whitecross Green Wood?

Since the arrival of ash dieback, The Tree Council has led research into the early responses and coping strategies of public landowners to this widespread disease.

We have two ash dieback toolkits available to download for free on our website.

Our Marsh Helleborines (Epipactis palustris) have been stunning this year. Originally a small colony mostly confined to the east of the Valley, thanks to our ongoing #FenRestoration work, they've spread and this year we probably have over 2000 flower spikes!
