In the past I felt @iandunt.bsky.social concerns around the lack of a liberal voice and right wing bile didn’t apply as much in Scotland. Now, as I see councils remove flags from lampposts in Scots towns I realise how naive that was. The SNPs decline has created a dangerous narrative vacuum here.

Arendt thought us the dangers for a nation begin with individual ‘thoughtlessness’. Not a desire to do ‘wrong’ but rather a refusal to ask honest questions of ourselves and the past. The result is we just get swept up with romanticism and all the shadowy simplicities it brings.
