Yes, bring back manliness like the 1790s
- wigs
- tights
- frills
- powder
- filler
- rouge
- hips out
- legs crossed
George Washington dancing, in tights and heels, powdered wig, frilly lace sleeves. Return of George Washington painting with washington's coat flicked back, hand on his hip like a manly man. All powdered up. Bunch of men sitting in front with their legs crossed

Waiting for the day when right wing ideologues accidentally recreate Reggio Emilia to get away from so-called woke education testing organizations. 🤞🤞🤞

100% there are issues with using SAT & ACT testing as a major admissions benchmark.
Using a different, still standardized, test who only exists to be ideologically conservative isn't moving anything in the right direction.

Nice! I was intrigued by this and on the fence about signing up (mostly just due to the busy-ness of life), but it does sound pretty good...

Wahooooo!!! An absolute all-timer from Skubal - the Tigers make it waaaaayyyy too exciting, but escape with the win. Yowza.

HAPPY POSTSEASON !! LET’S GOOOOO!!!

This is true AND it used to be even worse a couple years ago. 💀

This year had students roll two 10-sided dice for the angle (they had to re-roll over 85 and under 20).
As chance would have it nearly all groups rolled 65 and above. Pretty sure that's a statistical fluke but it'd be more pleasing to get a wider range of angles.

Every group was successful in hitting the ship in their first try - which 🙌🙌🙌, though it may be a bit too easy. Not sure if that's a bad thing for the first summative - but I'll need to think about whether I use a smaller boat, or maybe give them the position & v_0 & they predict the angle? 🎢

Day 28, APP1: 1st "real" summative lab practical - Sink the Ship! Students roll dice to select the angle a "cannonball" will be fired and place the ship where they predict it'll get hit.

I give students the initial velocity (shout out Vernier's repeatably precise Projectile Launcher!) #Teach180

Better find out just to be safe...

I'm glad the Tigers clinched a postseason berth, but jumping around on the mound after blowing a huge division lead and barely sneaking in the wildcard over the last couple weeks doesn't feel very appropriate.

I think you can get pitch velocity as the ball crosses the plate, but I have to dig around to find it (or maybe it's not in the public facing data)

Ha! Me too! 😂

Here's the pitch info:
It was the 299th pitch of the 9/24/25 Tigers v. Guardians game.
Third pitch in José Ramirez' at bat in the 7th inning.
Pitch was a 96.9 mph fastball with a spin rate of 4323 rpm.
Screenshot of the Baseball Savant pitch velocity chart showing data for the pitches José Ramirez saw during the 9/24 Tigers v Guardians game.

I'm just distracting myself from noticing the Tigers are doing a historic collapse right now after seeming like one of the best teams through August...

Oooh! A little digging I found this page at Baseball Savant: baseballsavant.mlb.com/sporty-video...

This shows the ball's exit velocity (EV) after hitting the bat was 43.9 mph. Not sure how accurate that is given the odd angle of the ball, but generally EV data is pretty accurate.

It should be noted for the serious analyzer that 96.9 mph is measured out of the pitcher's hand - the ball is definitely slower as it crosses the plate.
I think you can find pitch speed at the plate, but I'd have to do some digging.

If you see this, post a bridge.

Multonomah Falls on the Columbia River in Northern Oregon. My daughter and her friend are waving from the bridge.

Hmmmm...MLB has public pitch velocity data that you could use to do a bit of conservation of momentum video analysis 🤔🤔🤔🎢
