The Government must remember that our most important infrastructure is our natural infrastructure protecting us from floods and fires.

Weakening environmental rules – as proposed in the Fingleton Review – is not the answer.

Most unexpected flower this week was a little sprig of blackthorn in an otherwise wintry hedgerow. Also seen white deadnettle, wood avens, speedwell, dogwood, bramble, knapweed and a campion flower with SPECTACULARLY TWIRLING anthers! #WildflowerHour

Flowering this week in north-west Shropshire for #WildflowerHour are common knapweed, sowthistle, scentless mayweed, tormentil and in the 2nd collage buttercup, campion, wild carrot, self-heal, devil's-bit scabious and ragwort. These are #theWinter10.

Last summer my husband was given some puss moth caterpillars by a guy he met while in hospital. We fed them on willow leaves and watched in fascination as they grew. In time they developed chrysalises. Today two of them emerged! #moths

You have to seek out town hall clock, a tiny woodland plant with 5 green flowers arranged in a unique cube-shape. Every spring I go back to an old, overgrown tramway cutting where it thrives in the damp shade.
