absolutely not the only cause! but when you have sites close down that are primarily JUST toxic fandom, it's going to set the tone elsewhere as well. a lot of the toxicity is just shades of the same bizarre infighting, woke 1 arguing, abusive speech that made tumblr unbearable

having spent so much of my life on livejournal/tumblr, none of this feels new (raise your hand if you were there to witness the pinnacle of deranged supernatural fandom), and imo, in part, it entered the mainstream when tumblr died and those people moved elsewhere and brought the toxic with them

a lot of people are way more comfortable discussing GI symptoms and diseases casually, which is so important given how much younger colorectal cancers are hitting.

you're not incorrect, but there is progress; a lot more open discussions on menstrual problems in mixed-gender settings, and after the james van der beek news, my huge group chat was checking in to make sure we're taking bowel health seriously. so much has improved from when I was younger!

crime on public transit means fewer people take it, and most of the people taking it aren't able to afford other means of transit. not sure why we ended up with a group of people who think progressivism is "people should get to do crime whenever they feel it like, fuck everybody else."
