This is the kind of coverage that Teen Vogue just decided to stop doing.
dissatisfied by the New York Times coverage of Zohran Mamdani?

great news! I talked to the guy Thursday about his campaign’s success at bringing community together beyond this election, and contextualized how it’s potentially shifted youth engagement with politics by simply listening @teenvogue.com
Zohran Mamdani's Establishment-Fighting Campaign Built Community for Young People
“What Mamdani has done is not only inspire and mobilize young people, but he has exposed the establishment and some of their calcified views of participation and inclusion.”

Striking Canada Post workers will move to rotating strikes as of tomorrow — but they’re still fighting the uphill battle for both Canada Post and their labour rights.

For @parismarx.com, the Carney government continuing to chip away at this essential service is the last straw:

I’ve reported on the Doug Ford gov’t’s environmental record for 7 years and I remain concerned that Ontario’s only climate plan is a 2018 draft the auditor says isn’t evidence-based — and the gov’t now admits it won’t release a new plan or set stronger emissions-reduction targets

don't raise your hopes for some dramatic act of defiance to happen based on today. be afraid of what the administration wants. but also do not *ignore* how pathetic of a spectacle this was

Ezra is right to call attention to his own struggle over how best to respond to that. But I think it also reflects a certain lack of preparation that, as TNC points out, Black Americans and other marginalized and vulnerable groups have never been able to afford.

Coates knows that the role of the millions is to suffer and try and maybe not affect much, but to make as much change as possible against powerful people, much more powerful than us, so hopefully, someday, we get to the cycle where things are better. Klein sees us as the protagonists of history

I have to say, after talking to @brenttoderian.bsky.social about how to make our cities better, I've been working to reduce my short car trips (biking / taking TTC more).

Car-dependent cities are not the future.

All right, let's do this.

I have no inside info on @karenattiah.bsky.social's case. But I know Post employees are part of @postguild.bsky.social, and their contract allows the union to challenge "disciplinary action on the basis that is was taken without just cause."

So what's just cause?

Any interest in an educational thread on "just cause" protections in union contracts?

Podcasts and "deep dive" media will try to convince you that you *now* know things, thanks to them.

A PhD, especially one with archival, observational, or observational components, will definitely convince you that you know next to nothing, thanks to the available resources & one's predecessors.

my favorite robert redford story is that mike nichols considered him for dustin hoffman's part in THE GRADUATE. during their conversation nichols asked redford something like, "have you ever struck out with a girl?" and redford's response was basically, "i don't understand the question"

I can't remember the details, and can't find them now, for my favorite Robert Redford anecdote, but: When Indecent Proposal was being discussed, someone asked a film critic if she would sleep with Robert Redford for $1 million, and she replied, "Yes, but where would I get the money?"

Canadians stand with Rachel Gilmore. The Conservative government, whose actions and rhetoric have put her in harm’s way, must take responsibility and act immediately to ensure her safety. This injustice cannot be

One thing that kinda blows my mind:

I spoke to national French-language media all morning about this. I did three separate interviews before 10am.

I was interviewed for the U.S. publication WIRED about it.

But English-language Canadian media? Crickets.

It’s just so odd!
Hi. I’m Rachel.

My name is first on the website the North American far-right is using to target people they say “celebrated” Charlie Kirk’s death.

There’s just one problem: I never did that.

But the people sending me threats don’t seem to care.

Let me tell you, in my own words, what happened:

You can though, if you tell those stories with OTHER people (lawyers, doctors, mystery writers from Cabot Cove, Maine) as your protagonists. Copaganda as a concept includes the (relatively recent!) increase in narratives where police are the heroes rather than bumbling/corrupt obstacles, no?
Yeah. I mean “copaganda” exists maybe in a SOFT way. But most of what people like to call copaganda is just “the very strict requirements of narrative storytelling” heh. You can’t just have your cops all suck!

Charlie Kirk was just shot and killed.

This moment is horrifying in several ways. Political violence is always wrong.

His murder is also already being used among bad actors to fan the flames of further division, hatred and violence.

Including here in Canada:
