ok but there aren't actually any 'ways to limit asylum' without it no longer being asylum.
December 15, 2025 at 3:56 PM
it doesn't, no, but you still have some additional useful advice.

Or if you want to drive your fun fast car fast then go to a racetrack, and admire the other things you like about it during the times in between racetrack visits.

it's almost as if the tech would be there if it were thought politically worthwhile to invest in its development.

Like as a nation you do seem much more comfortable than others with the idea of inflicting violence and death on one another, as a matter of general national life.
December 14, 2025 at 3:09 PM
No I understand that it's much more realistic that guns/shooting might intrude on your day-to-day, rather than you all being rabidly homicidal. It is telling tho that your legal frameworks explicitly sanction using violence against each other, to an extent that is entirely beyond the pale elsewhere

lol
December 14, 2025 at 2:14 PM
Yh I'm generalising ofc, but those diffs strike me in lots of contexts. US police TV series, for eg, when your average bystander can identify the specific type of gun used in a crime they've just witnessed - beyond shotgun/handgun, I'm pretty certain the vast European public would have no idea.
December 14, 2025 at 2:10 PM
So I find it a really US interpretation that he's 'stopping himself' from shooting someone here - that impulse is not universal.
December 14, 2025 at 1:45 PM
I'd also venture that the idea of shooting someone is a much closer potential reality for much of the general public in the US than elsewhere, and much more accepted as both an understandable impulse & just outcome.
December 14, 2025 at 1:42 PM
I think he mainly had no idea how to handle a gun. The general public's familiarity with guns is really markedly lower outside of the US.

excellent

I mean out, 100% hetero, or fully closeted, it'd still be a hate crime

God save us from the "good" people, the people who are always So Sorry and So Sad to Have To Do Be Doing This. They remain the far right's most reliable and dependable foot soldiers.

Like, I'm sorry the fascists are giving you difficult choices. But that's what fascists fucking do. The only legit answer is "fuck you make me". The only answer that shows you have actual fucking principles not preferences is "fuck you make me". And that sucks. But here we are.

For your misrepresentations of what ppl mean when they advocate for a wealth tax? Quite.
December 2, 2025 at 1:43 PM
I mean carry on arguing against your imaginary version of a wealth tax proposal if you like - the skin's off your nose.
December 2, 2025 at 1:43 PM
That is a single specific proposal for a wealth tax to cover the cost of public investment in renewables, rather than that being chargeable to the average consumer. As well as being a good idea, it's also not a proposal for wealth tax to replace general taxation, as you suggested earlier.
