One of the biggest shocks students get is how much culpability Jimmy Carter and James Callahan have for the institutionalization of neoliberalism. Quinn Slobodian does great work on this generally. Some of Adam Tooze's stuff touches on it, too.

Oh yeah! (Although didn't know that detail, where's that from?) Neoliberalism was a global movement with a lot of collaboration across party and union/employer lines. Making one PM the be all and end all of it is just the most truncated possible thinking.

Yeah. Like, there is the point made by (someone whose name I forget) that right wing women and POC stand as individuals whereas left wingers are more likely to stand for the communities they come from, making it harder to promote them as tokens. But also Labour is racist as fuck.

The British left in 2025 is still obsessed with Thatcher because its deep and obsessive misogyny has stymied and real understanding of neoliberalism and the dismantling of the postwar consensus and they all just think if we say "bitch" through clenched enough teeth we'll get council houses back.

Everything after that is about either retaining islands of social democracy via debt or going full throated fuck the (white) workers (everyone was already fuck the not white workers). Like, don't get me wrong, I fucking hate Maggie too, but in the scheme of things she was just a cog.

I think it's important to note that the double digit inflation was *part* of the process that led to neoliberalism (which was not limited to Britain and would still have happened if Maggie lost in 79 or 83). The end of Bretton Woods was the decision point for dismantling the post war consensus.

Oh sorry. Relationship Anarchy. So like, working as hard as you can not to have hierarchies amongst your different relationships. Each relationship develops in its own terms and you try not to like segregate everything into "friends", "partners", "family" or whatever.

Nearly ten years. We had a bit of a rough spot a month or two back and it's been a really hard year so this is like a reconnection thing. Like, we're both RA/solo poly so there's no escalator except the deepening connection itself which can be a challenge to kinda celebrate?
