We fell out of touch. Years later I saw him in Chinatown having dim sum and he invited me to come sit with him. "Have some of this deep-fried tofu. You know, those times we went to Wendy's were some of the happiest days of my life." He died the next day. And the tofu tasted just like Wendy's fries.
I don't talk about this a lot but me and Tony -- Anthony Bourdain -- used to love going to Wendy's. He told me it had 'soul.' This is back when the food came in yellow boxes.
