It has the potential to touch many many more areas than the housing bubble, & to lead to a kind of panic divestment that most people aren't prepared to deal with, because people have gone all-in on things in a way they haven't since the dot-com bubble. So… possibly like both of those in a blender? 😬

I might argue that Q and other cult-like and conspiratorial mindsets aren't about the "self" as hooks is writing here, but about the "other," and how "they" are contra to an established meaning of/within the world.

Starfleet Temporal Investigations should have protocols in place to ensure that no doctor ever goes back in time because the hippocratic oath would mean they'd have to do all kinds of stuff that would mess up the timeline

January this year was the 30th anniversary of the airing of "Past Tense." Currently rewatching and thinking of it in relation to Octavia E. Butler's 'Parables' novels. (Also thinking about how they thought that a tech CEO in 2024 would have to get *Rid* of his tattoos in order to be successful.)
We sit On the In-Universe Dates of DS9's "Past Tense" and one year out from the 30th anniversary of DS9's "Past Tense" (oof), and this would've been a great year to get @roberthewittwolfe.bsky.social Avery Brooks, Siddig el Faddil, & Terry Farrell on a Dragon Con stage to reflect on these episodes.

One of the pathologies of making technologies into “products” is it requires you to *not* actually understand people’s real needs and address them where they are, but to invent and insert needs (for your particular solution-shaped object) that didn’t exist before
