This is why I pay you the big bucks.

Landlord? You’ve chosen a business that turns the right to live into a commodity, and you’re profiting from poverty.

Don’t like it? Become a comrade.

Break the cycle that taught you, you worked hard enough - you shouldn’t have had to. You deserved security in the first place. We all do.

I’m making a short trip to ANU (yes, in the midst of the shittest time - woo) to run a workshop on audio-documenting, at the BEST school there - CHL. Today they’ve published a sweet story about my work.

I guess it’s time to pull Apple, the platform starring white supremacy, from its subscription schedule. 💸

Had I a platform, this would be on it. Have you considered pitching to @thesqueakywheel.bsky.social?

My wife is showing me Star Trek. I DELIGHT in finding 90% of Next Gen Season 1 consists of the following:

No1 - “I’ll form an away team.”
Capt - “This smells like a trap.”
No1 - “I agree. Let’s go!”

*Smoke machine, lycra & prosthetics- fuelled conflict & trickery ensue.* 💖

And so many trans women and non-binary folks leading chants - which also rocked.

A big shid off to racism here in Melbourne/Naarm today. The rally was chant-ready, moisturised and vibrant.

Last night we hosted dinner with our queer family and we, collectively, had the single-handedly biggest, loudest fight we’ve ever had, and it was about JOJO SIWA. And I will NOT get into it here but this is to say that so long as we have tables, gay culture is alive and well folks.

One option for the future of Meanjin is for Uni Melb to reinstate its support. And here's one idea for how to fund it.

True that, where is our special envoy to tackle racism against Indigenous people?

If we have special envoys to tackle racism for specific races and cultures who experience racism, why is there no special envoy to tackle racism against First Nations people? #campsovereignty

I kinda just want to call them tweets but I feel someone else wrote biskie once in passing and I was like “Actually - that’ll do it.” (I cannae remember the source.)

My wife has recently introduced me to Star Trek Next Gen after growing up in a sci-filess household, and I can only describe the experience of watching episodes as being like reading an episodic comic book each time. SO INTO IT. So into this matching episodic podcast!!
wordress.bsky.social
I did not know this and it is NOT a fun or interesting fact for the day!!!

This biskie has been the highlight of my morning. I want to write a whole “Glory to the Mod” bit inspired by this now.

Some incredibly good news:

One year ago this week, The Onion returned to print.

In that one year, we’ve grown to the 13th largest print newspaper in the United States, just ahead of the Boston Globe, and growing fast.

In short, it’s working.

So… thank you. Thank you for helping save this thing.

I am one of the staff members impacted by this. I truly thought when I first read the email that it might mean my job is safe because I have not yet been made redundant, but, no, I am still facing the axe. It was a maliciously cruel email to send.
drdemography.com
Tough time for many at ANU. At around midday yesterday staff received a university-wide email. The language was ambiguous and could be read to say all forced redundancies would stop. I received many messages from people being forced out. Were they now safe?
I am writing to you today with three key updates for our community regarding the Renew ANU Program:
1. The University leaders have confirmed that all future changes under Renew ANU will be achieved without involuntary redundancies. This means that all future changes under Renew ANU will be achieved through our other mechanisms, including lift and shift/ realignments, continuation of the Recruitment Advisory Committee (RAC), natural attrition, and voluntary separations. We will continue to create greater accountability for senior leaders to ensure compliance with budget and resource allocation.
2. The University's timeline for future change has been brought forward from 31 October to today, Wednesday 20 August 2025. This means that under Renew ANU, no further change proposals will be released in 2025, and as expressed above, no further job losses will occur through involuntary redundancy.
3. Finally, the University will open a second Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) for the entire community next week, with details released via On Campus next Tuesday.

“The impacts of … Renew ANU … on us are not abstract – they are deeply personal and profoundly damaging …

The erosion of one-on-one teaching, the gutting of performance and competition and the casualisation of elite staff have left us feeling abandoned and misled,”
