Alright fair point. Maybe I should read more closely.

So many things to say about this poll and post.

But who rounds 25% to “nearly one third.” This is a crime against math and common sense.
Philip Klein

Nearly one-third of Democrats support Hamas, per the Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll. The party is being taken over by violent extremists.

This same poll suggests almost as many independents support Hamas and fully 16% of
*Republicans*. Do you think that's likely to be accurate?

Isn’t this a recreation of the West Wing flag burning scene?
atrupar.com
SORTOR: I took this flag from the man that was burning it in the street

TRUMP: Do you know who he is?

SORTOR: Oh yeah

TRUMP: So why don't you give it to Pam. Give it to the attorney general and we'll start prosecutions

Yep - THE core political difference today is whether you see all people as fundamentally valuable and worthy or if you draw lines between the people and the property.

Mike Johnson did it today in his ER comments. You see it in Gaza. It’s the fundamental political issue of the day.
sjshancoxli.liberalcurrents.com
i think it's worth putting "children are property" "women are property" "other people are property" into a single coherent system of thought--a vision of the human world as divided into biopolitical communities competing for scarce resources
worknowitzki.bsky.social
This is good, by the way. I co-sign his idea - property tax is proof of concept.
worknowitzki.bsky.social
I think we call this property tax.
opinionhaver.bsky.social
My most controversial take on this is probably that while I think reproductive freedom should be sacrosanct, I don’t really have any problem with additional taxes on (high income) childless people. Someone gotta pay into the pensions!

Yep - my wife has a plug-in hybrid Volvo with 35-40 mile range and it charges overnight no problem from a standard outlet. Hardly ever gets gas.

It's true this is very effective for Trump. But it doesn't work for Dems. Today's Dems want a society that's fair and prosperous for everyone. You can't say "oh except these unpopular people."

Dems are not, generally, in it for their pet issue. The GOP has much more of that (guns, abortion, taxes)
mattyglesias.bsky.social
The aspects of Trumpism where he has the upper hand over his own side's policy-demanders and is able to blow them off when he doesn't want to run political risks on their behalf tend to be under-discussed in progressive circles.
worknowitzki.bsky.social
Ahh Mike, great to have you in your role.

People already blame you. Now you’re going to try to make sure you get the blame for people going unpaid.

Brilliant strategy sir.

Johnson: "It's true that in previous shutdowns, many or most furloughed employees have been paid for the time they were furloughed, but there is new legal analysis - I don't know the details, I just saw a headline - but there are some legal analysts saying that might not be appropriate or necessary"

Excellent - had been thinking of getting my older kid into it. This would be a good chance.

“Serial” is a clever word to use here!

I conservatively saw the preview for this movie 12 times. It made me want to see it even less each time.

I'm sorry, I missed this. A Democrat has proposed that we provide a) highly visible benefits b) signed by Trump as an offset to c) hidden damage also done by Trump.

How do these guys get there? Are they allergic to thinking through the results of their proposals?

What do people think about giving working class Americans a $2000 tariff relief check for the unfair tax that has driven their grocery and housing prices up?

Also, I know Chait's not our strongest thinker, but her answer to this question was "I would follow the law."

Depicting that as "edgy" seems misleading at absolute best.

Getting close to calling her the DEI candidate there, Jon. Also drink, its about trans people again
worknowitzki.bsky.social
Yeah Ross that's a great question. Why do people criticize the system and laws when the system and laws result in one action (Linehan) and criticize the person twisting the system to their own ends in another (Trump/Carr).

What a mystery. Let's do 8,000 podcasts about it.

Wife: Umm

I think regardless of how you characterize it, it's a good reason to separate moderation and management. Mods should be a faceless extension of the rules, ideally.
worknowitzki.bsky.social
And even there you can see huge variability! There's a big group of people who oppose Trump but had a lot of faith in the courts (sort of justified in hindsight) and Supreme Court (lol).
worknowitzki.bsky.social
Yes - specifically it's because this question is measuring the difference between two unknowns. A question where "this is terrible and I expected it" and "no problems at all, just as I predicted" give the same answer is not particularly useful.
