Released on this day in 1983. It might have sounded like it was recorded in a cave but that was the sheer beauty of it. You know you're old when you can still taste the smoke machine in the back of your throat from the first time you heard this.

It's practically my duty to share this incredibly wholesome photo with you of @visionvideoband.bsky.social taken by Chris Cardi.

It's a snapshot of everything we wish the goth community to be. Have a great weekend! 🦇

It can't moo all the time.

Okay we're a day late mentioning this one but on 5th August 1988, Fields Of The Nephilim released their highly acclaimed 2nd album which featured the single 'Moonchild', achieving a #12 position in the UK album charts & maintaining sales of flour & cowboy hats for another year...

It’s a bit of a joke that many of the words she uses in her lyrics are made up or unintelligible. It doesn’t help that for the longest time the lyrics were not available to fans so they often transcribed what they think they heard

We would like to wish a happy 62nd birthday to Elizabeth Davidson Fraser, the legendary Cocteau Twins frontwoman whose uniquely beautiful voice captured hearts & ears and whose lyrics inspired some of the most secure WiFi passwords this planet has ever seen.

Remembering Sophie Lancaster, who died 18 years ago today. She was murdered for being a Goth.

Her legacy, The Sophie Lancaster Foundation, works to Stamp Out Prejudice, Hatred & Intolerance Everywhere. Honour her memory by standing against hate. #SophieLancaster #Sophie #goth #gothic

Happy birthday to Banshees/Creatures drummer Budgie, arguably the greatest drummer alive. If you haven't read his recent autobiography 'The Absence' I strongly urge you to do so, it's fantastic.

On this day in 1984, #DepecheMode released "Master and Servant" as the second single from their fourth studio album, "Some Great Reward".

We can add that to the list of WHY

On this day in 1979, Bauhaus unleashed the definitive goth DJ toilet-break record 'Bela Lugosi’s Dead' onto the unsuspecting populus.
For some reason it's harder to acquire the standard 12" black vinyl version than the picture disc with glow in the dark text.

OH GOD I THINK I FOUND IT.
Okay, upon second listen it's not remotely cybergoth - to be fair I was on the other side of the room and tired when it came on.

Oh my, this is BAD.

If you're that desperate to hear it, here's the link. DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU.

I'm unable to stop thinking about the rave/cybergoth cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's 'Freebird' that I'd heard online last night.

While it was a considerably faster beat than the original because 'oontz oontz oontz', it still managed to run for 3-5 business days, just like the original version. 😶

Happy 68th birthday to Daniel Ash of Bauhaus / Tones on Tail / Love and Rockets 🦇

Wise words indeed. It's up to all of us to challenge anti-minority rhetoric; it's not welcome in the goth community and does not reflect our core values.

We thought it was time to do a post for friends old and new. The Sophie Lancaster Foundation was founded by Sylvia Lancaster following Sophie’s murder, targeted solely because of the perpetrators’ response to her alternative identity.

Released on this day, 1988. I loved this single so much, pretty sure I turned my 12" copy into thin strands of black plastic.

A bit of 'light' reading for the rivetheads among you. Honestly this is a pretty decent list by Pitchfork & may lead to several hours of musical research for some.

We've been asked to give a birthday shout out to Pete from Northampton who's a big fan of the goth scene.
He's 68 today but he doesn't look a day over 25, does he?

COCTEAU TWINS-GARLANDS
Released 43 years ago (yesterday). With its dystopian wall of screaming guitars & Liz Frazer's haunted vocals, it's still the most gothic sounding album ever made in my humble opinion & a staunch favourite in my entire music collection.

What's your go-to 'gothest ever' album?
