I’m not sure I trust Jets dev staff to turnaround prospects in time to compete in 37’s window.

And perhaps an element of the locker room finally being cohesive with strong camaraderie since the tire fire state that Maurice/Lowry left it in back in 2021, that even if there were lows that the culture could keep things afloat.

In that, I think they grossly underestimated just how much Ehlers contributed to the PP1's outstanding performance, an extremely healthy year, and generally lots of players with career years in outshooting expectations. Doubling down on system/depth over talent was missing the forest for the trees.

My guess is that the Jets brain trust assumed that as long as they could protect Hellebuyck's crease and give him vision, they'd be fine scraping by with scoring talent with 81-55-13 at 5v5 and on the PP - they only needed to patch the holes with vets that could understand and play that system.

Had to get him back in time so Jets could finally overcome some early season injuries and offensive woes to bolster their lineup by... *checks notes* stapling him to Toews and Namestnikov as their 2nd line
