2 I did 4 months acquiring novels & stories for anthologies, & people DO NOT know how to follow a theme. Too many great stories get turned down because they don't fit. Be specific or don't bother submitting!!

If the open call asks for a theme, then stick to it. Make sure the whole story never forgets that theme. Don't try to crowbar an existing story into the theme for the sake of it. If it fits, wonderful, if not, write something specific. Anthologies that are themed need to be cohesive. Theme matters.
