I've seen this problem happen even with musical shows--it was a persistent issue when Revue Starlight aired that the insert songs (which are VERY PLOT RELEVANT) were getting subbed 3-4 days after the rest of the ep bc the translator had to wait for the other licensor to sign off/deliver the stuff

I remember watching at least some dubs pre Sony where they ported over the onscreen stuff pretty well (even if they disallowed you from turning on the sub track for some fucking reason, but I guess even that's out the window now
