Working on a shared world was so much fun, but the amount of coordination needed meant this anthology took almost four years from concept to publication. I wrote this short story in April of 2023, we revised as a group in the winter of 2024, and it's out today!

Reader, we need you. This morning we woke to the extraordinary news that our bank accidentally duplicated several of our payments that were scheduled to be paid – ‘we’re sorry for any inconvenience.’ As you no doubt know, small presses, like many small businesses, are run on a knife edge, and as our print reps will attest, every transaction is a haggle, a struggle to ensure survival. To be clear, this will not kill us off, but we do need to quickly find around £1,000 to pay our next print bills on time. It’s a hard time for so many, we know, and we do not ask this lightly, but if you’re planning on buying books for Christmas presents, it would make the world of difference if you headed to our site today and bought a book. 🧡

To understand this problem, first, you have to understand the demographics of Star Trek viewers. Trekkies are and always have been men. Women are not usually interested in science fiction, but that’s doubly true of Star Trek in particular. I hear you, random guy who once knew some lady who watched every Voyager episode. I see you on Instagram, attractive girl cosplaying in Starfleet miniskirts. Unfortunately, you very cool Trek-girls are the exception, not the rule.
