Someone said that this is just magical compression and I think that is cool mental model. Compressing the whole internet down to hundreds of gigabytes.
I think the chinese are doing the right thing and trying to make the models more efficient.

I could be wrong even though that has never happened before :)
Seems to me that they are doing diminishing returns and nothing wowziwow-stuff. It might be that we will discover some emergent behaviour if the model sizes are increased but I would not bet on it.

The rate of change between the first GPT and the latest is not that great. It seems like the bulk of the meat is already squeezed out of the transformer architecture.

Yes, it IS this stark. Yes, it IS this black and white. We have legal and moral duties which we are ignoring. We are not doing everything in our power to do what we are sworn to do. We are sacrificing Ukraine & ourselves to Putin, and we are doing it while claiming otherwise.
