FWIW a Super Tuesday NY primary would make for a very frontloaded calendar, the type that if the overall result of the day is inconclusive could lead to a prolonged primary battle.

And that's without considering the other likely primary movement (not to mention what the DNC does with the calendar).

New York was last a part of Super Tuesday in 2008; also alongside California and Texas. It was a Super Tuesday so delegate rich that it was dubbed Titanic Tuesday.

The New York legislature could do nothing and the 2028 presidential primary would fall on the first Tuesday in February (Feb. 1), five weeks before Super Tuesday.

Of course, that would run afoul of DNC rules unless the state/state party received a waiver.

The path to RCV in the Democratic presidential primaries is riddled with obstacles. Put it this way, if the DNC opts to shake up the primary calendar, that issue is going to be hard enough to bring to fruition. Instituting blanket RCV is a *MUCH* steeper climb.

This isn't a judgment on RCV or Elliott's point. I'm kind of agnostic on RCV. But the tide had kind of ebbed on it heading into 2024 when it was last a thing among national party rules committees.

...and that trend line was not on the Republican side alone.

Sure, the media (and others) assign wins and losses in presidential primaries -- and that is not without import! -- but delegates are allocated proportionally to any candidates who receive more than 15% of the vote (either statewide or in CDs). That's often more than just one candidate.

Two things:
One interesting: Another state said to be vying for that first slot in 2028 is NV. Their senators -- both Dems -- were a part of the Group of 8 as well.

One tired (but true): NH will be first in 2028. The question is whether that primary will be sanctioned by the DNC or not.

For paid subscribers: A look at how the incentives for Democratic candidate visits to Iowa are likely to change. That has not been fully explored yet. I don't know that I "fully explored" them, but I did take a typically nerdy turn into the 2028 rules as a guide. 2/2

How long will Democratic presidential contenders keep going to Iowa?
Possible 2028 Democrats keep trekking to the Hawkeye state but those visits aren't guaranteed to last. Here's why.
