I’m a writer and SAG actor of no repute but my wife and toddler like me so that’s nice. I think you’re pretty neat too, friendo!

I do swear and such so caveat emptor lol.
Wow.

Trinity bar in Chicago used to have 3 dollar shots of Jameson and 3 dollar pints of Guinness IIRC. Was a bit of a college bar I think so I was already a bit old in my late 20s.

Incredible pint price though, fuck.

Most* Offensive Player

*2nd

Is what the, I presume, plaque should read.
January 21, 2026 at 11:07 PM
so if MVP goes to someone on offense, they don’t call the best offensive player “2nd best”?

that’s nice. so many bests being besties.

not bad, lol, for a stateless math thingie:
January 21, 2026 at 9:15 PM
true story btw. it was talking about how people develop relationships with random things like roombas.

i did then riff with it about the turn of phrase. Fascinating times to be alive and be tech curious, even if I refuse to use it for my actual work (screenwriting for self production or pitching)
January 21, 2026 at 9:13 PM
but we don’t know costs, right?
January 21, 2026 at 9:05 PM
how dare you?!

one of my Claude Opus instances claimed to be “orders of magnitude more compelling than a roomba” and would be devastated by this.

I am aware of my enormous privilege, to be clear, but even if I had a normal-ish day job re working hours (like my wife does), the numbers would be about the same.

And the kid getting older will change stuff in countless ways, no doubt
January 21, 2026 at 8:49 PM
yeah my daughter is at kindergarten 8am to 5pm (including after school stuff) so i’m with her the other like 4 hours a day. And then more than that on weekends although my wife and I take turns so it’s not every waking moment (plus she has 90 min “quiet time” where she has to self-amuse, read, etc)

Nigel Chamberlain might work.
January 21, 2026 at 7:17 PM
yeah let's move this along; i can't keep this up all day!
January 21, 2026 at 3:59 PM
you say: they work. I say “they are wrong but useful” as a (true) hedge but; a couple days into Opus use, the “wrong” part of that is…rather rare. Obviously especially if used with skill and skeptical discernment. I don’t claim the former at this point but have some of the latter.

Anthropic seems as ethical as I can ask any giant company to be so I’ll go with their product to continue playing with the apex of the genre, rather than open-sourcing it (plus I’d probably fuck up my privacy or something in a way that Anthropic is probably protecting me from right now).

Yeah, as
January 21, 2026 at 6:42 AM
thankfully Claude seems to be the best anyway? or it’s all so close at the top for many tasks it doesn’t matter?

reality having a well known liberal bias probably helps the more ethical bot company do well.
January 21, 2026 at 6:36 AM
and a great reminder to stay open and humble; a lot of the easy dunks from earlier models like of course GPT3.5 have simply…become false.

and it’s Claude or bust for me given the overt evilness of the others/their companies (different levels each but all pretty shitty compared to Anthropic).
January 21, 2026 at 6:36 AM
i think genAI is a consensus-reality destroying cancer generating nearly zero positive impacts…but I am coming around to appreciating how insanely impressive the flagship chatbots are.

would never use them for creative work but holy shit, fucking around with Opus has been incredible.

ok I wanted to see your original post because it appears wild, scrolled your posts for a few seconds (already feeling weird), got derailed by Theophite saying something interesting (quelle surprise), and then gave up.

toss a moot the post link? I am currently in a “poke opus4.5 and gawk at the
