In 2016, I flew to DC as a summer intern. It was my first time seeing the endless patchworks of land of the continental US. I was a kid born and raised in Hilo, Hawaiʻi, from Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia, and often the only Micronesian in the room.

I really have words for the wording in this op-ed, particularly as if Yap is not a part of FSM, FSM is not a single entity but a linkage of Micronesian states, and that the U.S. paternal oversight into freely-associated COFA states COMES WITH meeting obligations with trust, and they do none of that!
