I worked on an oral history project in the late 80s with Japanese Americans who were rounded up in LA and detained in two different places. The histories are known. My senior had her first child in one of these camps, in the middle of a very cold winter. The other stories I heard were harrowing.

We have forgotten what it's like to hold a child paralyzed with polio or comfort a mom who has lost her child from measles. It wasn’t that many generations ago. And I don‘t want to see us go backward. They protect children. They are our best defense against these terrible illnesses.

I’m just going to tell the story. Back in 2000 I was volunteering for the Gore campaign when he came along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alfre Woodard and Dule Hill to a GOTV event here in MN. He ended up sitting down across from me stuffing his envelopes.

Rob Reiner made some great movies but he was also unafraid to speak the truth, and was one of the public voices who knew you don’t squander your platform, and only got louder about opposing evil fucks as he got older. Legend.
