In the interwar years David Alison painted a number of interiors particularly of his house at 78 Queen Street in Edinburgh, a surviving part of the original fabric of Edinburgh's New Town and one of the most important examples of urban planning in Britain. This work is from 1922.

Louis Moillet painted 'Visit to Tunisia,' in 1914 in the company of his friends August Macke and Paul Klee. It was a trip which straight away altered his work: there followed a fusion of clear forms, simplified compositions and heightened colour.

Ernest Rouart's portrait (1900) is of his brother Eugène, a successful farmer and businessman. Ernest is thought to have been the only pupil of Edgar Degas and painted this portrait in the year he married Julie Manet, the niece of Edouard Manet.
